you might want to ask your friend what program was used to make this christmas card. different programs require different plugins or codecs.

also not just updating your flash or media player but also the sound drivers for your particular sound card can affect this.

there have been a rash of e cards that have viri attached to them lately so being careful is always the best side to take,

if you do download a plugin for anything and experience problems you can turn them off in the browsers you use. the man problem with multiple browsers is the advent of designing programs that work with all browsers.
