Hi Guys!!!
I usually use Mozilla firefox as my browser. Alan asked me to install Internet Explorer (seems it's required for one of his program things). I just went to the Microsoft IE8 website, downloaded it, I tried to launch it and it told me "This is from an unverified publisher, with a not recognized digital signature (or something to that effect). Then it prompted me to use an application to launch it. I selected choose and it took me to MY DOCUMENTS FOLDER. I am a bit confused here. What steps do I need to take to install IE8?? Thanks much Melody

I have both IE & FF installed and they update on their own.
Do you have IE 7 installed still? If you open it and click the Help and go down to the About section and click it - a pop up will tell you what version you have now, maybe you have IE8 already. or you can go into the Tools/ Internet Options/Advanced tab and under browsing - make sure the box is checked for - Automatically check for updates and it will be much easier to get the updates for IE that way. If you don't have IE at all anymore then the download from the Microsoft website should be fine just click yes for a standard install. Is it your antivirus program giving you that notice ? ["This is from an unverified publisher, with a not recognized digital signature (or something to that effect).] If you know you downloaded from Microsoft site all should be fine. It could be a standard AV type warning/pop up. I have made a folder on my desktop for all downloads to go to, then i launch them from there. I don't know why yours went to your documents ...

Here's what I know so far. We did NOT have IE installed on our computer. Only the mozilla. When Alan downloads something it goes right to the download folder. Then I open it up. When I tried to do this, I got the "unveified signature, and I have to choose an application to open it up". So what application do I use to INSTALL IE8? Thanks much Melody

Windows comes with IE automatically installed, so it must be there somewhere unless you uninstalled it at some point...
![]() the icons might have just gotten removed? You can use the windows search on your computer to look for it - just type Internet Explorer into the search area or go to settings/control panel/ add/remove programs and then on the side tab click add/remove windows components then find the Internet Explorer and make sure that box is checked then click next and follow the prompts. Maybe that is why the download is asking for an application to run it -your original IE is disabled or missing.. generally they just go without asking ...

I did a search and I FOUND IT. It was a folder. I found where it said "install". I clicked on "install", and I got a popup that said: WARNING, YOU ARE ABOUT TO CHANGE YOUR INTERNET SETTINGS. So what do I do now?? I just want to have an icon on the desktop so Alan can use this when he wants to. Why would installing this change my internet settings? And thanks so much for your help. Melody

was the install folder the only one that came up on the search?
Is it listed in your programs list or the programs/ accessories /system tools? If it is listed there you can right click and send a copy/shortcut to desktop.

I then went to Programs, and I looked through all the programs and bingo, there was Internet Explorer, so I clicked on it. All the icons moved on my desktop but nothing happened. So I went back and right clicked and selected "create shortcut", thinking I would get a short cut on my desktop. NOTHING HAPPENED. So I went back and right clicked on it again, and selected OPEN. Nothing happened. So what do I do now OH LEARNED PERSON!!!! lol lol lol Melody

LOL
maybe the IE access was removed at some point did you try this yet? to see if it is showing as a checked box for IE? [go to settings/control panel/ add/remove programs and then on the side tab click add/remove windows components then find the Internet Explorer and make sure that box is checked then click next and follow the prompts.] If IE isn't installed anymore it should then go to the correct files on your hard drive and reinstall it for you. If that does something I'd do a reboot also. But if nothing happens in that area try this- in the Add/Remove area click the -Set program access and defaults click the custom and make sure IE is selected for access as well as FF. after you do that do a reboot of the computer also to see if those changes make a difference. If none of those work. I would go to the same access area and select all Microsoft - just temporarily to see if that makes IE work. Then you can always change it back by selecting the other choices. I think your IE8 needs to have IE 7 to do the upgrade from. unless you can find full version IE8 on the Microsoft website.. might try redownloading IE8 here- http://www.microsoft.com/windows/int...r/default.aspx or here is IE7 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
