Default Bryanna, can i please get your help?

I've gotten no replys on my previous post. Can you please give any advice. I'm not improving at all.

On Thursday I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted. On Saturday everything felt fine, until that night, and by Monday morning the left side of my face was so swollen it was starting to shut my eye. I went back to the doctor and he re-opened my incision and flushed out the socket while pushing on the outside of my cheek (OMG, ouch! and I was even numb). He started me on 875 grams of Amoxicillian. The swelling has not gone down a bit, although the pain does feel better.
I'm just so worried that my throat is going to close up. Should I get a second opinion? Would going to the hospital to get the site drained be better, also getting an Antibiotic IV while I'm there?

Please help, Im worried that this could really get out of hand.

Thank You.

Hi
just to let you know that Bryanna very kindly volunteers some time to try to help here. She is not online here every day, but does check in when she can.
If you have not had a reply that usually means she has not been back online yet since you posted your initial question, which was only yesterday afternoon.
I know it is stressful when one is worried, but try to stay as calm as you can and if you feel you are in crisis, then go to the ER

Hi T.Mart,

I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner...

The swelling should have subsided by now. If this infection is from a lower wisdom tooth extraction and the swelling is on the inside of your mouth moreso than on the outside of the cheek, then do not wait, get help. Swelling in the lower jawbone can close the throat depending on where it is.

You may need IV antibiotics. Sometimes the infection has been there for awhile and needs to be treated more aggressively.

Please write back as soon as you can.

Bryanna

Default thanks so much!

Hi Bryanna!

Sorry if I sounded pushy. I didn't mean to, but thanks so much for getting back to me.

So it's been 6 days since the removal. I still have some swelling on the outer part of my jaw, with a hard part about the size of a fifty cent piece on the edge and just a little below the jaw. I am still numb in the chin and lip area.

I saw the OS yesterday and he thinks it's looking better, although, when I told him I can press on my cheek and make pus come out of the socket, I don't think he believed me.

I hoping the pus will go away with the antibiotics, and me manually expressing it then irrigating at home (is this ok to do?). I'm also hoping the feeling will come back soon and the swelling will go down so I don't look like a deranged chipmunk!

Do you think I should get a second opinion? I just wish my life would get back to normal, I need to go back to work and start being a good Mom, once again.

Thanks so much Bryanna,

Traci

Hi Traci,

You were not being pushy at all! I feel bad that I didn't see your post sooner.

I do not think it is a good sign that you can express pus from the surgical wound and for that reason, I would get a second opinion asap if it were me.

Bryanna

PS... thanks for posting us the update!!

Default Hello T Mart

Welcome to Neuro Talk. I am sorry you are having such a difficult time with the extractions. I am not the expert Bryanna is, but I would go to the emergency room if there is any indication of swelling of your throat. That would be scarry, and need some attention. I know it is hard to stay calm when your face is swelling. Don't hesitate to go in if you are worried. It would be worth the trip to the ER, just for peace of mind. Bryanna will be back here. She is wonderful with information and support. Sometimes we can't get back on line everyday, due to our own medical issues and some trouble. I try hard to get back here, and you can post me or PM me anytime just to talk if you need to. Let me know how you do. I care. ginnie

Default Thanks

Thanks so much Ginnie.

I'm doing better now, I was just worried because I went from felling fine to being swollen and in so much pain.

The only thing I'm wondering about are the knots along my jawbone. I guess they are from the infection, but it seems to be under control, so hopefully they will go away soon.

Thanks again for your time.

Default Hi T mart

Glad to hear you are better. I sure do know how scarry, those kinds of swellings can be. Keep a close watch on your jaw, where those bumps are. I hope they resolve and all of the infection goes away. Don't you ever wonder what the cave men did? I can't even imagin....Keep getting better. ginnie
