Hi pennye,
If the tooth has a fractured root a root canal should not have even been suggested. Teeth in this condition can be quite painful... even the slightest touch with your tongue can be painful. The reason for the referred pain to other teeth is because teeth in one area all share the same bundle of nerves. These nerves can also trigger pain to occur along other branches of nerves which could cause pain in other areas as well. So hopefully once this fractured tooth is removed, your referring pain will stop. It is common for a tooth to be fractured even though the fracture is not apparent on the x-ray. The diagnosis is based on the patients symptoms .... and some times a swelling with develop. It is always possible for the tooth to break during the extraction. The dentist will keep in mind that he suspects the fracture and hopefully it will come out with no problem. Try not to worry about it too much ![]() Keep us posted! ... Hope I did not scare you too bad ![]() Bryanna Quote:
