Default I am trying to help a diabetic friend

But she doesn't want help so I came here to ask a question about her diabetes. She is 67 years old, morbidly obese and here is her medication info.

She is on a shot of humolog before each meal. She takes 80 units of Levimir before bed time, along with other orals. So that's 4 shots a day and oral meds.

Her last a1c was almost 10. And her morning readings are always over 200

This morning it was 250. I had given her some of the fenugreek seeds and she made tea, drank it last night, and her sugar did not change. So obviousy in her case, she needs SOMETHING to be done.

She has a cardiologist because she has an arrythmia (sorry spelling??) and she is on high blood pressure meds, and coumadin and god knows what else.

I tried to gently have a talk with her about her morning readings but she said "I have a heart condition and my heart could stop in a heartbeat, so that's what I'm worried about". She has already gone to an electrophysiologist but he could not help her because of where the problem is located. He told her if it was on the proper side then they could operate on her but in her case they can't do anything. She gets palpitations and PVC's.

But her problem is her weight and her denial. I have to be very careful if I bring up her diabetes. Actually I wait for her to bring it up.

I told her today "you do know that when one has a problem controlling blood sugar that there can be complications eventually, you DO KNOW this right?" and she said "yeah, you can get coronary artery disease but I don't have that, I get pvc's". She is not concerned about her morning readings at all. She actually laughed and said "this is so frustrating". And I said "well, I don't think it's funny". She changed the subject.

And she hasn't been to an endocrinologist in over one year. Every time she goes to her primary care guy he gets on her case about her weight and she backs off. So she is not good about going to the doctor.

So here's my question. What the heck is going to happen to her if she doesn't get the diabetes under control?

And if she does finally go to see an endocrinologist, what will they do? She said she is on the highest dose of Levimir and oh, here is something VERY important.

She actually gave herself a shot of humolog (after she took the shot of Levimir). I said "you can do that??" and she said "no, not really but I wanted to see if I would get a lower reading in the morning and I did"

I have tried to explain dawn phenomenon to her but it flies on deaf ears.

The fact that she is experimenting with taking humolog and then going to bed, well, this doesn't sit well with me. I think she is gambling with her life.

I told her "they will probably put you on an insulin pump, so go on online and see all about it".

Her response is "I don't want to know"

So she obviously doesn't want to know.

But I do. What do you think the doctor (if she ever goes to him), well what do you think they will do for her? What does a person do when 4 shots a day and oral pills, well, when they don't work.? What's next?

Thanks for helping me. I did try and get her to go to Cornell with me and go to a nutritionist but she said "that's too hard"

Oh dear!!
