Default Thanks to and update for Porkette (Sue) & Tattoo2

Hey Sue and Tattoo2 I just wanted to thank you both for your info and experience that you blessed me with. My wife and I have decided to move my Mother-in-law in with us, and she seems happy with the idea. Also until the move can happen we have one of her trusted neighbors helping her and taking her to Dr. appts. ETC.. I think we are on the right track to getting her quality of life back to where it should be.

God Bless You Both!!

Hi Rich,

I'm glad to hear that you MIL is moving in with you. I wish you and the family only the best. I've had sz. for 39 yrs. so it's no problem to help you and others out if I can relate to it. Wishing all of you well and May God Bless You!

What about her care? What she has now is not sufficient nor what she deserves. I do hope you have told her of the information I provided and the importance of the Epileptologist and the Comprehensive Center. For you or any family member to choose not to tell her and not direct her to the best level of care would not give her that choice and she has that right and ability. I hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling that you are happy with this decision because it may be easier on family and not necessarily done for her and her desires etc. I recall that she liked living in NY! Lots of families make decisions for others with have a chronic illness based on what they themselves desire and what is easiest on them. It is not about them. I posted all of the information for her benefit. What abt her care form this point on, and have you directed her to this site? Please share that with us. Epilepsy is not the same as mental retardation that requires someone with them. If she does get the proper care, you may have to adjust to her wellness. Can you do that? Tattoo

Hey Tattoo2, Again many thanks for your passion and info you have given my family to aid a better quality of life for my MIL. The decision to move my MIL isn’t being done because it will be easier and safer for anyone but my MIL.

One in order to pass the info on to her and web sites she has to accept she has a problem, which she hasn’t; and she has to have the internet and ability to surf the web which she doesn’t nor want the internet we all tried to get her to learn and got her cable internet, she only wants to play card games on the computer.
Two she is 80 yrs. old and has serve AR and tries to do things she is not physically able to do on her own safely, or goes without comfort items because she can’t do nor will ask someone to help with because she doesn’t want to bother them like putting a/c in windows each summer.
Three she might lose her license and will not have the ability to get out for supplies or fellowship. I and others believe part of her problem is loneness and depression so this will increase the problem. Two neighbors and several relatives have found her plastered and two times flat on her face on the floor. She and her late husband had a nightly drink which she kept up the tradition, however she puts three shots instead of one, then forgets several times she fixed the drinks and has two or three while people have told her she already had one or two and she will not believe anyone even when we point out the glass setting beside her she just say I must have left that from last night.
Four there is the meds she needs to correct the problem she either forgets to take or decides she doesn’t believe she needs, my BIL has found three or four bottles of meds full, with no refills used and out of date showing she is not taking them recently. Not to mention the effect of alcohol on her meds, she has been told by her Dr. Not to drink but she forgot this and again will not believe anyone when they remind her (she needs it written down by her Dr.).
Five we have a neighbor who grew up across the street from her (her parents were good friends with my in-laws). My MIL babysat for her when she was a kid and helped her parents when they were ill and needed help getting around and looking in on when she moved out of town for a while then finally moved back . So now she is happy to return the favor by looking in on her daily, and getting her to the Dr and reminding her of symptoms and conditions then getting the Dr. to write his instruction down on letter head to help my MIL to remember later.
Finally she has been talking to her daughter in Texas about moving in with her, within the next month. First this was causing more stress on my MIL due to she doesn’t like the weather in Texas, and was feeling rushed with the time restrain. When we moved to Virginia 20 years ago and my in-laws visited they said when they retired they would like to move here if we are still here. When my wife asked my MIL if she would still like to move here she said she didn’t think we would like that to happen, after I and my two children who still live here called her and told her we would love to have her come here, she got excited and now every day calls my wife excided but stressed with all that has to be done. My wife ensures her that we can do it gradually over a year if needed by going back and forth as needed. Then after we get her taking her meds regularly and improving her memory and overall health we can discuss her future care and options, we will use the info you and Sue so kindly shared with us.

Again Many Thanks And God Bless You!
