Hi Jen,
What you are discribing sounds exactly like an aura sz. and I would report it to your neuro. The brain is the most active when we are asleep and there have been times when I have come out of a cp sz. (complex partial) when I've been sound asleep and then it wakes me up. Some people are photosensitive which means certain colors can cause sz. for some people. You might want to ask your epi to do a special e.e.g. on you the next time you have one done where they will flash different color strobe lights one at a time to see what colors if any bother you and can trigger a sz. I had this done and I found out bright white like when the sun is shining on the snow, florescent green and amber were the 3 main colors that triggered sz. for me. If you're interested check out this web page for more info. http://www.neuropat.dote.hu/neurology.htm when the main page comes up click on epilepsy and you will find a lot of info. about different forms of sz. AEDs, and medical treatments for E. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You! Sue |

I've had many photo & strobe EEG's done, but never a colorized one. I just tried to do a research for a name for one. But I know this one thing - Fluorescent Lights are a nightmare to me, especially if the ballasts are going bad or the lights are going bad and they really begin to flicker. That's why I wear sunglasses on my head all the time, even at nights. Those things will either provoke a Migraine or Seizure or even worse, a Migralepsy. ![]() I've learned to look away or shut my eyes or look downwards if those things begins to fire off. Strobe Lights on the other hand ... is really weird with me, sometimes it won't do anything, and sometimes it causes me to tremble up where I beg them to turn it off, to a point where I'm almost in tears. And within an hour or so, I get this huge massive headache ... like what happened when I had my EEG last Friday ... But I never had any colorized light EEG ![]()

Hi Sharon, I'm no Dr. but it sounds like you may be photosensitive like I am. The name of the e.e.g. is a photosensitive e.e.g. my epi ordered one done a few yrs. ago when I told him how strobe lights were causing sz. for me and florescent green was the worst color to trigger sz. Before I started having any sz. I started having migraine headaches then the sz. started about one yr. later. If you use a cell phone take note if it bothers you and causes migraines or sz. because the frequency your in using cell phones can bother some people like lights can. One thing I noticed is since I had my brain surgery the colors don't bother me as much as they used to. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You! Sue |

sensitive all my life though. Maybe that's why I don't get that many photo/strobe EEG tests which are often skipped on me. However they (Doctors) are fully aware of my light sensitivity, and I've been classified as "Acute Classic Migraine" - so I know the difference between seizures and migraines - but I hate them when it's both together. Thanks for the explanation! Would have never known! ![]()

Sharon and Porkete, this is very interesting to me as my computer has been triggering most of this arua and ugly feeling of being removed form my body, every time i reseach. you see ive had a problem on and off with balance for years so this is my way of finding out whats wrong so i can help myself get well my reseach is all done on the computer , looks as if i have to buy one of the lcd moniter or flicker free screen.
as soon as i get on the comp, with in 1 minute my arms and legs are finching and arua happens. i havent heard of this Migralepsy. some one along the way had mentioned atypical migraine as possibly being the reason behind my balance issue and now they are saying possible seizure so i could have both, Maybe? i'm so confused. thanks so much guys, hugs jen |

Hi Jen,
I found that the brightness of a computer monitor would often trigger sz. for me. In regards to balance I have very poor balance also. I found out that often this is do to the AED a person is taking or it can happen because the cerebellum of the brain which controls a persons balance is being affected do to the epilepsy, that's why a neuro or epi will have a person try and walk a straight line walking heel to toe without looking down at the floor. I always pull to the right when I do this and it's the RTL of my brain that's causing the sz. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You! Sue |

There is a way to control it is go to Radio Shack and get a Anti-Glare Computer Screen Cover (I am suspecting you are using an old Computer Monitor) - make sure you measure your monitor screen diagonally so you'll get the right size. Best Buy "used" to carry them, but I've not seen them around for a long time, but you might want to call around, or even call some Computer Parts & Repair Shops - you might be able to pick one up for cheaper. (NOTE: AVOID the green-shaded anti-glare screen and get what appears to look like "black" which is actually "ultraviolet" - the same as sunglasses) Some people with Epilepsy just wears sunglasses. The other option is to adjust your monitor so that the contrast and brightness is DARKER and make your room slightly brighter than normal instead of the other way around where the lights of the room is dimmer and the computer is brighter. With me - I put myself on a timer and limit myself online, but ever since my sister gave me her expensive flat screen HUGE monitor -- I've not had any problems at all because of the fine quality. But when I go to my old monitor - it's a problem and I just wear sunglasses and use a small table lamp near it, it's cheaper that way. ============================================ For information on MIGRALEPSY: http://professionals.epilepsy.com/pa...ne_epidem.html Hope this helps! ![]()
