Hey! I'm new to the site, typed in deja vu and sickness into google and this came up. Basically, since i was like,9, Ive been having weird deja vu sensations, like a set 'movie' that goes on in my head, strange images etc that make me go into stares, make me feel ill and warm and feel like crap emotionally. I hadnt had them in a while then at the beginning of August they came back with a vengence, I had 4 yesterday! My mum keeps telling me to go to the drs but I was afraid that they would think im nuts. so I came on here and found out that theres a possiblity that something is actually wrong and that I'm not a crazy person! Could they really be seizures?

Hi Ladycc,
The Deja Vu you are having is known as a simple partial seizure (sz.) It can cause a person to see things that aren't really there this is because things are going on in the occipital lobe of the brain. If I may ask are you completely conscious during the entire time this is happening? If for some reason you blank out and you are not remembering things after the deja vu then you may be having an absence or complex partial sz. I've had those for 36 yrs. My advice to you is to go to a University hospital where there's an Epilepsy Center and see an Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in epilepsy) I've seen many neurologist over the yrs. and I found that they like to push the drugs but an Epileptologist is way ahead of a neurologist and will have a person on the least meds. Stay away from anything with nutra sweet or anything like it, it's been proven that nutra sweet can cause more electrical activity in the brain and cause sz. for many people I found that out the hard way when I started drinking diet soda. Also get a calendar and write down what time the sz. happens along with a description by doing this your Dr. may see a pattern as to what time of the day/night or what days of the month you are more likely to have a sz. Often women will have sz. before and after their monthly cycle and that's because the hormones are changing in the body. This is known as catamenial sz. To get more info. about epilepsy you can call The Epilepsy Foundation of America at 1-800-332-1000 they can help you out and refer you to a Dr. if you are interested. You might want to check out this website for more info. about your sz. When the main page comes up click on simple partial seizures. http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/index.shtml#seizures Here's wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You! Sue |

Thank you so much for your support! I've been thinking im nuts for years lol I dont lose consciousness....I can still hear every thing thats going on around me but it sounds far away and they only last for around 30secs. I recently had University exams so its seems that they're brought on by stress or when I'm tired. I'm goin to the drs on Monday....at least I know now that when I tell him my symtoms he's not goin to laugh in my face!

Hi Ladycc,
I'm glad to help! You are correct when you mentioned how stress and being tired can cause sz. These are the 2 main things that can trigger sz. for a person. Sometimes it can also happen when a low pressure is near and the weather gets bad and one other thing that can trigger sz. for some people is bright flashing lights like strobe lights or certain bright colors. When this happens to a person the person is known to be photosensitive. I found out that the colors flourscent green, amber, and bright white like the sun shining on the snow will trigger sz. for me. I wish you the best of luck with your Dr. don't be surprised if they want to do an e.e.g. on you or an MRI. Wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You! Sue |

Hello Ladycc,
I started out with deja vu too. Then about 6 months later I also got the complex partial. Those I go into a starring spell, then after a few seconds I'm totally 100% confused. A little later after the complex partial started, during the confusion half the time I hallucinate. But my epileptologist explained why that all happens. He said that the starring spell where i'm unconscious and not at all alert is the seizure. Then the total confusion and the hallucination is the electrical activity in the brain trying to get back to normal. But since it's still VERY abnormal, that's what it can do to you. Now over the years since I didn't get it taken care of, my seizures have become worse. So the sooner you get it taken care of the better. He told me that the abnormal electrical activity will kill brain cells. Then over the years when enugh of them are killed off, you will get a step worse in seizures. So i moved up to complex patial, and now to grand mal. They see that I have it because of scar tissue on the temporal lobes. So in 93 i had the right temporal lobe removed. That helpe pretty good, but didn't control them because i also have scar tissue on the left lobe as well. Sincerely shawn33 Quote:
