Well, the forum says "General Health Conditions & Rare Disorders", so here goes. On March 3rd I started seeing black "things" in my right eye. Not floaters. I called my eye doctor who said to come in NOW!! I did. He inspected my eyes, immediately got me an appointment with a Retinal Specialist... it was almost noon and this appt was at 1pm, so I knew something was going on.
Retinal Specialist spent awhile checking my eyes out and told me I might have a torn retina which could lead to a detached retina, but I also have some Macular Degeneration in my right eye. Which coupled with the blood ..... and I a little fuzzy on his terminology, but Wet AMD is what I remember him talking about. He said to come back in 3 weeks or if it gets worse. He gave me some other instructions, like not lifting anything over 5 pounds and so on, but being a male, I forgot his instructions yesterday and my right eye was "throbbing" later in the day. I put an ice pack on it and it did not help. I am wondering about an eye patch?? I laid down, with the drapes pulled and no lights on, but that did not really help much either. Any suggestions? I have other medical conditions that complicate the issue, but it would seem like there should be something else I can do, like the eye patch, to relieve stress on my right eye. I don't know if this is a neurological issue or not, I was told my undiagnosed rib cage problem is likely to be tied to a neurological condition, so who knows, maybe the eye problem is too. Any suggestions appreciated. I followed mrsD's advice and started taking the appropriate vitamins, etc. to try to help my eyes. What a life we lead!!!

Most of the macular degeneration formulas have zinc in them.
If you do not take a vitamin with zinc, it would be a good idea to add that to your list. The best one out there is OptiZinc, if you have to buy one. Or you can get the full formula called Preservision. http://www.bausch.com/en_US/consumer...servision.aspx When I had my stroke in my retina, I had some aching too. But it did not last long. I'd report to the specialist about the pain lasting this long, as typically it does not. Edit to add: Say, are you still taking that quinine? If so, did you tell your retinal doctor? Quinine can cause retinal damage over time. I hope this is not the case for you.

I get zinc in my One-A-Day vitamins and I bought some at the Commissary a few days ago.
I will look into the link you provided. BTW, if I did not tell you, I am on the Probiotics from your link. Thank you. I am down to 324mg of Qualiquin a day. Having Nocturnal cramps in my calf muscles now. Egads, fell asleep while typing. This falling asleep is getting worse. I now fall asleep while standing up...sort of..... Had about 6 hours sleep last night. Getting worse...

Please report your quinine intake now and in the past to the retinal doctor. It will help him take care of you properly.

I will call his offices this morning. Was not aware Quinine effected our eyes too.
Thank you, eyes are "burning" again, will see what he wants me to use on them. Slept over 10 hours last night. Most sleep I have had in a LONG time. Since my software tracks that sort of thing, it is easy to notice.
