Hi, I would like to ask anyone if they know what is going on. I woke up one morning, and immediately noticed that my head hurt. It was only hurting when I shook my head, like I am looking left, and someone on my right says my name, I will jerk my head to the right, it would hurt. I am a 15 year old male (if that matters). I just assumed it would go away in a day or two, but throughout the day I would get short sharp pains on the upper right section of my brain. The pains would only last a few 15 seconds or so, but they would hurt pretty bad. I'd get them randomly about every few hours. When I woke up the next day, it was the same. It's been about a week and a half, I still get the sharp pains, but the shaking head pains have decreased in pain levels. I haven't asked my mom to schedule a doctors appointment, but I have told her about my situation. I don't want to freak out and make a big deal about it, but I would like to make sure it's not something serious like brain cancer. Is it something that will just go away? Or will it get worse? Chances are your headaches are probably something benign like a virus, or even hormonal. When people talk about hormonal headaches, we usually think of women and their cycles, but men can get them too, especially during adolescence. They can also be caused by poor diet, poor sleep (adolescents need more sleep than other times of life), stress, and other factors.

I agree it's probably nothing to freak out and make a big deal about, but since it's been going on for more than a week, I think it'd be prudent to run it by your family doctor—even if just to put your mind at ease.

--is the possibility of a sinus infection; the symptom pattern and location is very consistent with sinus infection and/or poor drainage resulting in sinus pressure in that area. And sinus infections are common, particularly in adolescents.
