Confused vp shunt causing seizures

So Dean has seen Neurologist and just more tests and diagnosis He said he was a complicated case with a lot going on. So they did a nerve conduction test which showed he has severe peripheral neuropathy and rt. ulnar nerve damage in rt. arm. He doesn't have the neuropathy pain like so many do, his is just numbness. which is maybe why he is falling? He is scheduled for a sleep study with EEG on wed. Seizures getting worse, now he is blacking out and falling down. The headaches have gotten better since they took him off Keppra and put him on Lamictal. maybe just not a high enough dose yet so I guess vp shunt working ok and all these symptoms are seizure related? It's so frustrating not knowing why all this is happening

Default one of the first on the planet

Hello,

I was just diagnosed with epilepsy, I have had a shunt for over 40 years. I was just put on Lamictal (Lamotragine 100mg). I had two seizures prior to getting put on it. I have not had any since, however, I have not had any since. The two I had were considered to be was is detailed as photo-sensitive epilepsy, this occurs when in a dark space with with flashing/strobe type lights (ie the movies, tv in a darkened area). I asked my neurologist if the shunt had anything to do with it, his response was quite simple. Is it possible, yes, can I say for sure, no, however, you do have a foreign body in your head. I have basically learned not to watch tv in the dark and unfortunately, I don't go to the movies anymore, DVD's come in handy.......hahaha. I have realized, that due to length of time I have had a shunt, I know the doctor's learning more about the shunt, they can't they can't be proactive all the time and have to be reactive in some instances. I have learned to cope and so can you. I am not a doctor, however, as I learn more I will let you know.

Default seizure experience and hydrocephalus

Hi. My neurologist told me that seizures are a side effect of having hydrocephalus. I am not sure but I think it has something to do with having a foreign object in your body. Insertion of the shunt disturbs the electricity flow in the brain which causes seizures. I am on tegretol, lamictal and clonazepam. I do not have a choice due to the severity of the seizures I get. It has been a period since I have had one but...the side effects from the meds ar.e fierce.

I wish they could invent a med that could take care of the seizures and eliminate the sedative effect.
