Due to my recent diagnosis (8-1-12) of Idiopathic SFN I have added a lot of supplements to my daily intake and I am not sure if I am taking the right ones at the right time. I use 5 different of the 7 day pill boxes so I had to prepare the following list so I would overlook any.
1. Are there any supplements that I should take at different times? 2. Are there any supplements that should not be put in plastic 7 day pill boxes? 3. Are there any supplements that should not be put in plastic 7 day pill boxes along with others? Prescriptions and Supplements, daily schedule: Wakeup Methylcobalamin 5000 Mg P-5-P 50 Mg Metafolin 800 Mg Pepcid AC 20 Mg Stabilized R-Limpoic Acid 200 Mg Dextrin fiber 3 g 1 Hr later Breakfast Fish Oil 2400 Mg Omega-3 720 Mg Ubiquinol 100 Mg Magnesium Citrate 200 Mg After lunch Mega Benfotiamine 500 Mg Dextrin fiber 3 g After dinner Fish Oil 2400 Mg Omega-3 720 Mg Ubiquinol 100 Mg Dextrin fiber 3g Nighttime Simvastatin 40 Mg Aspirin 325 Mg Magnesium Citrate 200 Mg Acetaminophen 500 Mg Diphenhydramine HCI 25 Mg I will be visiting my Primary Physician in the coming weeks to discus eliminating the Pepcid AC and Simvistatin because they both have side effects which are causing my stomach not to absorb my natural nutrients. I am rapidly becoming dissatisfied with Doctors subscribing drugs to us old folks (non-diabetic 79 year old male) which cause other major problems that cannot be corrected while on these two drugs. I have been on Simvastatins and Omeprazole (now using OTC Pepcid AC temporarily) for 30 or more years! ![]() |

--not be taking a series of supplements with the Pepcid--especially the methylcobalamin, which relies on small percentage passive absorption, which can be interfered with very easily, especially by something that is designed to reduce stomach environment acidity (and B12 is not well-absorbed in a non-acidic environment).
In fact, any cobalamin B12 is better taken alone, at least an hour apart from anything else--the cobalamin molecule is the largest the body normally uses and it is very easy to interfere with its absorption. As far as the rest, I suspect you may be able to consolidate some of the stuff you're taking more than once a day--I don't know if there's any reason for you to be taking 4800mg fish oil AND 1440 mg of omega 3 each day, or 400mg magnesium citrate (unless you were on opioids or some other constipating med); I suspect you could get any desired effect on about half of each of these (especially if you're taking Dextrin). Are there specific reasons for this regimen? |

One of my other problems is increasing mental confusion which I also attribute to both acid blockers and statins! I will respond in your paragraph sequences:
I will move the Pepcid to after the lunch meal. l will take only the Methylcobalamin during Wakeup and move the balance of the Wakeup supplements to after the 1 hour pause for breakfast. The Fish Oil and Omega-3 are combined in one softjel of which I take 4 a day. Three years ago my previous Primary care Doctor wanted me to take 8 a day (I did not) and doubled my Simvastatin to 80 Mg which I did till 6 months ago until my Cardiologist Nurse called me and said to use a max of 40 Mg, I was happy to do so! I just started the Magnesium Citrate yesterday as I have been going between constipation and diarrhea for the past 3 months which required using Miralax to control. I will cut the Mag cit to 200 Mg when I get normal BM's. At first I thought the constipation was caused by Gabapentin but after I stopped that a month ago there was no change, I now contribute it to either the acid reducers side effects or the Small Fiber Neuropathy. I had a full batch of blood tests yesterday and I hope the results will allow me to make some reductions to my doses etc.. With all the supplements I am taking there is no change in my SFN! I am super frustrated! I appreciate your help............ |
