Red face help quitting lyrica

Hello everyone, I have been taking 50 mg's of lyrica 3 times a day now for almost 7 years. During this time my weight has gone up, I feel always lethargic and the icing on the cake for me was that I backed our car into my sister in law's car! I'm just tired of always feeling like I'm in a fog! Can someone please tell me how to wean myself off of this? Or, maybe how to go down to 1- 25 mg.pill 3 times a day?
What was that Tommy Roe song years ago???????... "I'm so dizzy" Thanks everyone!!!

you should ask your doctor's opinion on this. but generally, people decrease their dose by a certain percentage every week to 2 weeks. safer to go every 2 weeks if they have been on a med for years. ask your doctor about reducing your dose by 25 mg daily every week until off or at your desired dose.

Exclamation Be extra careful!

rw131, Please be careful! 7 years on a medication is quite some time! I agree with MdotDdot, it's best to have your doctor's guidance on this! Take extra care while adjusting!

I went off 300 mg lyrica in about 3 months. I know it seems like a long time, but any shorter i got extreme withdrawls. i have RSD and my dr. will put me on it for 5 days for flare ups and you arent supposed to get withdrawls, but i had extreme symptoms. Be careful, dont plan ANYTHING. be ready to feel horrible for many days after getting off of it. I know not to optimistic, but its the truth, and thats what happened to me.

Lyrica put me in a big (fat) fog, too. I hated it. However, talk to your doctor and wean off slowly. The drug's manufacturer makes it clear that Lyrica should not be stopped abruptly.

Sudden Lyrica withdrawl is terrible. It will magnify your pain and headache to an extent you can't imagine. Stopping cold turkey will put you at risk for seizures - even if you've never had one. There are even documented cases of suicides. In cases where folks have to stop immediately for medical emergencies, they are supposed to do it in hospital.

Again, consult your doctor and draw up a safe timetable to stop Lyrica and perhaps transition to a drug you can better tolerate.

Take Care

On a positive note, I stopped lyrica abruptly (I had to because my nose was bleeding due to dryness and I was a PIG ) and I didnt have any withdrawal symptoms... I think my body was really saturated with the drug so when I stopped it, my body was actually like "thanks"...

I took 150 mg per day for one year...

So, yeah.. Good luck !!!

Hi Blue,

Were you taking any other drugs at the time that might have helped mask or mitigate the withdrawl symptoms?

When the "neurologist" decided to take me off anti-epileptic drugs after 40 years, he have me 7 tablets of sodium valproate, told me to take them over a 10 day period. He then wrote to my GP telling him that he had weaned me off the drugs and not to prescribe any more.
There was no follow up appointments and I was left to get on with it. I got off quite lightly I think. After 8 weeks of withdrawals I convulsed so hard that I fractured my spine. Is it any wonder that I have little respect for doctors?

Honestly, "The Powers that Be" MUST HAVE decided that you were an incredibly strong soul. I simply cannot comprehend WHY a Human Being should suffer so...

It's "funny" (not in the ha ha way) how the Drug Companies ALWAYS SAY: NOT TO SUDDENLY STOP ANTI-EPILEPTIC DRUGS AS THIS "MAY" (how about "WILL") CAUSE INCREASED SEIZURES! In reality it is not the drug, or someone's dependence on it (hence withdrawal), that causes the seizure. It is the SEIZURE DISORDER, the EPILIEPSY itself. It is certainly well known among Medical Practitioners that the immediate stopping of Anti-Seizure Medications can cause sudden 'Cardiac Death Syndrome'! Be aware & take care of yourSELVES everyone!

WISHING YOU WELL!!!
