ive had three doctors tell me i have ms but my neuro says no if i do have it and dont take the meds what will happen to my eyes they are getting really bad and the neurapathy is all over my body now any way impression two areas of t2 signal hyperintensity that are non specific one of these are periventricular findings there are areas of abnormal hyperintensity on the t2 sequence adjacent to the atrium of the right lateral ventrical and a punctate lesion in the subcortal left frontal white matter thank you very much

I am sure the MDs have told you that the MRI is only ONE tool in the use and diagnosis of MS. Spinal taps, blood work, MRIs and the ruling out of more than 100 other diseases that can closely mimic MS are all proper tools, as well as your personal signs and symptoms over the course of time. you must have 2 clear MS events separated by at least 30 to 60 days break when you have a remission in symptoms. The MD may be saying MS based on MRI, AND blood work AND signs and symptoms, AND other stuff, while the radiologist may simply be looking at the MRI and using only one peice of the puzzle to make his diagnosis.

Is there an MS center in your area? Have you been evaluated for Optic nueritis? You spoke of visual issues, and frequently the Optic Neuritis is the first clear symptom that you have MS.

My best advice is to schedule an appointment with the MS clinic and take ALL your records, MRIs, blood work results, diary journals, and so on. Let the big boys have a look and give you a proper work up.

All I can say is that that MRI sounds lot like my MRI. My report talks about "multiple punctate lesions in the periventricular white matter". My understanding from my neuro is that MS lesions can show up anywhere, but lesions around the "horns" of the ventricles (aka periventricular white matter) are somewhat characteristic of MS. With that said, there are alot of things that can show up as spots on an MRI, so it is up to the neuro to differentiate between MS and something else using other tools.

I agree with Dejibo...go to an MS specialist and get another opinion.

when i went to the er when my left eye had double vision the neuro told me with all my symptoms of and parethisies all over i probably have ms i went to the eye doctor and he told me that my eyes where good it was what ever was wrong with me that was causing the problem with my eye now its in both eyes i also was diognosed with cronic sialadenitis from my biopsie in both glands but my neuro says its not related to my neurapathy my regular docter says hes out of his mind and wants me to see another neuro but i have to wait until new insurance kicks in lol but i will be going to the university of arizona neuro clinic if anyone knows anything aboat a good docter there please let me know

i can't answer your Q but the advice is good. you're right to get a 2nd opinion.
you can call 1-800-FIGHT MS to get your local MS society. they can send you a list of MS neuros. that might help you.

there are also MS opthamologists who might be better able to see and Optic Neuritis.

please keep us posted. call now and set up an appt for when you think you might have your new insurance. if you wait until you have it you might have to wait even longer for the dr appt. it can take awhile to get into a new practice.
