Default Um...help?...UTI?

Ok, we all know I hate to admit when I am in pain or somethings wrong.

I think I might have a UTI. It doesn't hurt. It just feels strange when I urinate. There's a sort of hesitancy and then what I would describe as an unusual ticklish, electrical, sort of thing when it starts. It stops while I am going and then I feel it again when I stop. There's a sort of dull ache at times when I have to go and I think I have noticed an increase in frequency. I've never had one before so this is new territory for me.

I hate this because I can't describe it well, and it's embarrassing but it's almost like you had too many orgasms.

I called my newish GP and he won't just do a dip and he can't get me in until next week. I am considering calling my old NP and traveling to her or heading to the clinic down the road tomorrow (and starting the search for a new GP!)

Does it sound like a UTI?

Yes it does, River. I just got over one by gobbling up lots of cranberry caps ( 6 caps three times per day with a full glass of wateror cranberry juice) and some Uzo tabs.

It didn't get to the raging type where you must get ABs, so it cleared up without the Doc, this time.

I hate those things...feel better.

UHHH, too many orgasms..LOL!!

I can't say exactly what it might be, but it doesn't sound like any UTI I've ever had. I've never had a UTI without that horrible burn.

I don't know anything about MS issues related to urination, so can't speak to that.

Whatever it is, I hope for your sake, it goes away fast and stays away.

dear RW,
it sounds suspicious. i CANNOT believe your dr doesn't have you come in right away. it will take just a few minutes to check urine.

can you stop by one of those in and emergency clinics?
can you go to another dr?

the thing i'm thinking is that tomorrow is thursday. the wk/e is fast upon us.
IF your sx's turn worse you may be stuck with an ER visit to control a stupid UTI. it's better to catch it early, believe me, than to wait for the real bad sx's to start. and, you don't want it to turn into a kidney infection.

ok, i'm a nurse so i'm always thinking of the worst.
it's just best to get on top of this before the wk/e. and with the holiday next wk....

I think it does sound like a UTI.

If your doctor isnt going to check you for one, then go to an Emergi-care. If you let it go too long, you could end up going to the ER with a kidney or bladder infection. (I've been there, done that, not fun and it's expensive)

My UTI's sometimes start asymptomatic. No big warning signs until I'm in the bathroom every two and a half minutes. I'm starting to learn the signs. Increased need to go potty is one...

I think one of my problems is I don't FEEL pain like others do, or at least that seems like my experience. I'm the girl who didn't know her appendix had ruptured, remember. I thought the discomfort was oncoming menses!

I've broken bones and dismissed it as a sprain until I couldn't walk or the swelling wouldn't go down. I've injured my knee and only avoided surgery after a year of ignoring it collapsing by finally going to a doc and getting major PT and bracing. I had salmonella and dismissed it as a bug until I almost died and the man took matters into his own hands and made me go get checked and I was hospitalized for ten days.
I may have missed signs and symptoms of the MS until I suddenly went blind and got diagnosed in three days by the ophthalmologist!

The new and improved me is trying to listen and accept that something might just be wrong. This is one of those times.

I don't have the bad pain like most talk of either.
I get the feeling like I need to go but not much does, and just a general continuous discomfort & urges feeling.
If I ignore that, it will travel up the tubes to my kidney and that hurts like a knife in the side!!!

i get the real cranberry juice, some of those AZO tabs or other UTI stuff from the natural health section and flush it out with lots of clear fluids.
and if on other meds check for safety before using any of those.

I've had it turn around in a day or so and then continue to drink extra fluids for a few days after.

Of course if that doesn't work for you and things get worse then a dr is the way to go.
avoid spicy foods, sugary drinks - soda pop,etc

have some yogurt also

Here's to hoping it's a uti! No seriously... mine is some random "hey look your bladder won't empty, yes i know you'v been dealing with this since oct come back at the end of dec and we will put you through some MORE testing." They think one of the swollen discs in my lumbar is interrupting the signal from my brain to my bladder....

I get to massage the bladder for about 10 minutes after drinking no less that 16 oz of fluid and then if i hold it for another 20 minutes or so i actually get pee! it's horrible. Reminds me of being prego and having a kid kicking my bladder!

and... TOO MANY ORGASMS? surely you jest! I didn't know that was possible! Man, that explains it! LOL

It does sound like a UTI to me, and very similar to my symptoms (just got over one myself which was stirring my MS symptoms before I even realized what was going on).

Is there a "scent"? That's often my first clue.

DON'T leave it RW. Leaving an infection leads to a full blown attack for me.

The scent, that's how I usually self-diagnose myself and head to the Emergi-care (PA there is cool, and she trust me to recognize these things now)

This may be TMI, but if it smells like stagnant water, get checked out as soon as you can.
