Default Speaking of gross and embarassing MS questions...

OK so the bladder isn't emptying all the way...

And since around the same time I have been having to take fiber caps, drinking extra fluids, and aloe juice just to have a bm. These things helped back in early nov when all of this started and up until i went to urologist for the bladder thing i was still having regular bms.

It's been 4 days! The first time i went to the doc about all of this it had been 6. My lower abdomen is continuing to grow, the numbness from my legs now has spread to include my lower back and from my belly button down. And I swear to you there is fluttering in there that can only be compared to a baby kicking in there... (Considering I had the tubal AND I'm on bc pills AND I have had 2 prego tests in the last month...I know I am not preggers!).

I also know my neuro is out on maternity leave. And I hate the man that fills in for her. I am assuming these two issues are related. And I am assuming these are both MS issues... Any suggestions on what to try next?

If you havent had a bm in 4 days, it's time to go see the doctor. Call someone in the morning. If not the GP, call your neuro, maybe he can get your other doctor to get off his butt and help you. If the stand-in neuro wont help you, does he have a nurse or a PA...maybe one of them could recommend something?

A BM every 4 days is like, WOW!!!!, to me after once a week!! Every MSer is so different. I read of a person going 5 weeks without!. I've read 2x a week acceptable for a non-MSer (though I was once an every dayer) I get no bloat, weight gain, etc. - so see no problems. See a doctor, discuss it. I keep an eye on everything I do or don't do anymore.

I HATE constipation. It rules my life.

Miralax does work.

extra fiber does help.

Aloe juice is good

If its been longer than 3 days, you may need some help to get it out of there. I find that sometimes its not the fact that poop is there, its the fact that i CANT push to make it get out! Its like I have no co ordination with what my bottom is supposed to do normally!

Hang in there.

Can I have just ONE normal, Pre-MS type day for Christmas? Where do they sell those?

Mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told her stem cells.

You know after the urology guy did his exam for the bladder thing I don't even WANT to talk to my doc about his one. But seeing as it is day 5... I am going to go get some yucky miralax and pray for the best.

I take Phillip's stool Softeners 1 x a day then 2x a day (before bed) to help. They now make a laxative pill that works with Magnesium. I have Benefiber everyday in morning coffee. Eat Fiber One (which DH calls "FIRE One".) Drink water all the time. Hear FDA has concerns now about thing that makes Miralax work, but OKs/likes Magnesium. Eat Apricots as a snack food. I don't know. Miralax (even in decreased dose) makes mess again and again while I try to sleep next night. I find, although I can't push, sitting at a regular time on toilet can encourage event. I try to be consistent. 20 minutes after coffee is my choice as coffee a natural diuretic and BM mover. Don't take my Vesicare until after event as don't want any action decreaser. Takes trial and error for me to find solutions. Good luck. Had a party to go to, was SO glad (sadly) to poop before going to party - one concern removed. Think about this more than I'd like.

LOL just talked to doc.... who btw is out on maternity leave but decided to call me back after i talked to the nurse this morning.

she also suggests miralax. YUCK! And she tells me if this doesn't work to call the nurse back and they will call me in something stronger. I only used this stuff once before and I remember it being a horrible experience... trying to psych myslef up to drink it....

Oh she also agrees with neuro. From lumbar MRI it looks like a crushed nerve in there. But she is also concerned with the spreading numbness. And then she dropped the surgery word on me...

all right... i can do this! Maybe if I just chug it....

I'm still on postop for bladder surgery...can't have any straining at all, so he has me taking 2 stool softeners and Mirilax before bedtime...it sure works.
But I have a feeling this is your MS not making those muscles work to unload. It's best to call a doc...don't let that stuff stay in you too long...I know it's been too long when I feel too uncomfortable and I look pregnant...
