Default Provigil v. Amantadine

The new and "improved" cost of Provigil has made it necessary for me to find an alternative drug. Provigil has been a godsend for me, and I am quite leery about taking something else, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I now have a prescription for Amantadine. Has anyone had experience with this drug?

That's a bummer, Marion, I was on A when I discovered Pro and there is a major difference to me.

The A works for me but not nearly as well. The only side-effect the A caused me was very vivid, peculiar dreams. Fortunately, my mind is programmed in full Pollyanna so my weird dreams were quite entertaining.

Sometime ask me about the one where I was competing in manual wheelchair icecapades. It was a stellar performance!

I've tried them both and Provigil worked much better for me. Amantadine was like taking nothing at all.

I know what you mean about the cost. I got my rx for Provigil refilled religiously when I had insurance and the cost was just $10. I saw how much it would have cost me without insurance and nearly fainted. No way could I afford that. So....I have a huge stockpile of Provigil now. I hardly ever take it anymore. I wonder how long the shelf life is for it?

I never got to try P, but Amant didnt seem to do very much. I felt I was better off drinking a caffiene drink, and a pep talk.

My friend is on Aman, and LOVES it! it has made a large turn around in how she feels.

I think its one of those love/hate things.

Default reality???

I had to stop taking Amantadine because the dreams were so vivid that I found myself quoting "dead people's opinions" on current events.

I could not seperate dream events from real events.

Amantadine made me very jittery and caused my legs to cramp. I now take Provigil and for me it's much better. I hope it works out for you taking Amantadine.

Hi Marion,
I have to agree with the majority here. The Provigil had a positive effect on me for 4-5 years but then it stopped working. The Amantadine seemed like taking nothing, sorry to say.

I hope it works for you. We all are so different so you never can tell. And yes, Provigil and Nuvigil, are too pricey. Way out of the ball park if you don't have insurance. I have ins but the co-pay is too high on medications over $500.00.

Instead of Provigil, I take a nap. When I worked it helped me to stay awake. It does not cure fatigue, it just keeps you awake. I had to drive back and forth to work plus the min. 8+ hour day.

Kitty, most medications are good for one year. After one year they lose efficiency by 20 to 30 percent a year. Some meds are not good at all after the expiration date. Check with your pharmacy, okay?

Good luck Marion

I use the "new improved" version called Nuvigil and 125mg works for me all day long. It's slightly cheaper and I was skeptical but it really does work better for me.
