Lots of good advice. I usually have this as a symptom of anxiety, which may or may not be part of MS.
But I vote with the folks that said "call your doctor". Anything to do with breathing, why take a chance?

I had this about a month ago and it was the beginning of bronchitis. I got some antiobiotics and took guafenex (sp?) for a couple weeks and drank lots of water. It cleared up finally. My doctor also offered to give me a bronchial dilator (sp?) but I passed on that. I hope it's just an upper respiratory thing.

Why do these things always happen on a weekend or holiday, huh, Kell.

Yes, Kell, please call your doctor!!! Not being able to take a deep breath can be a sign of many different things. Besides all that have been mentioned, it was one of the symptoms I was experiencing when the irregular heartbeat thing started. Now I take Tenormin and another(?) drug for it....sorry, can't remember now......along with warfarin to prevent blood clots. Just another possibility to add to the list. Good luck!

Thanks for all your replies everyone.
![]() You know, I don't notice it as much during the day but I think that's because I have other things to distract me. I notice it at night when I'm laying down more because I'm trying to fall asleep. My Medicare takes effect in August and I already have a couple of doctor appointments scheduled for that month. I'm pretty sure it's MS related but I'll be sure to have the doctor look into it when I go. ![]()

I was having a similar problem in 2004 and after all tests to rule out other causes (asthma, infection, PE, etc.) one doctor said it was caused by acid reflux. My neuro at the time said that it could very well be an MS sx. He called it air hunger. Coincidentally, the sx did ease up after steroids.

I know exactly what you are talking about! but I don't think it's anything with having MS though.
It's like when you really take a breath it feels like your lungs don't get full...you don't get the satisfied feeling of a full breath and you keep going until you do. It's like an incomplete yawn ot incomplete sneeze. |
