I like the "Inspirational" videos people send me. The guy born with no arms and legs who is so positive (is the camera around when he cries?), talks to kids in school (Uh, he can make money in that way, Do you have any other suggestions?), the one-legged ballerina and her one-armed partner (Like I could dance before MS), MSers who climb mountains (Is there a W/C access trail up to top for me?).
OK, I'm done being bitter. There's laundry to do.

How 'bout this one....

When parking in a disabled parking space and walking into a shopping centre, I got this one:

'Laziness is not a disability you know..." from a complete stranger 'you should be ahamed taking that space from someone who DOES need it'.

I must have been having one of those 'you look so well' minutes. Pity the cow didn't see me staggering back an hour later.

And the other old rejoinder to the 'you look so well' comment is - 'and you look so intelligent....go figure'

"You're so lucky to be able to get paid for doing nothing".

Are they serious?? I worked my patootey off since I was 16. I paid into the SS system. I also paid for Long Term disability insurance.....just in case. Unfortunately, my "just in case" became a reality.

I'd love to be able to hold a job now. But yeah......I'm so lucky to be able to lounge around the house and do nothing...... One positive - I can't be fired or laid off!

Most of the time, I just blow the comments off as ignorance and just make the comment that, "Everyone ends up with something in their lifetime that becomes chronic. You just haven't gotten yours yet." Or, I just leave it at, "Everyone ends up with something. Mine is just MS."

BUT . . .This comment blew my mind. I couldn't even respond. I was speechless. This elderly lady tells me, "But your so beautiful." WHAT? DBF was with me, saw the confusion and shock on my face, and explained my bad days to her. Phew!

Tricia, I've found that elderly folks are the worst. I don't know if they just don't think before speaking or feel like they've earned the right to say whatever they feel. They can be brutally honest (almost like children are) and say things that really hurt. My Dad was like that - of course, I didn't know I had MS but he could say some things!

Isn't that the truth. LOL But it rendered me speechless. I get all sorts of comments. The most common is "But you're not in a wheelchair." Over time I have learned to curtail or change the subject. Once I say . . ."You haven't gotten yours yet" people tend to turn around and start talking about all their aches, pains, medications, and other medical issues to justify they have something too. Which is fine by me as I would rather listen to that then talk about me and MS.
