Does anyone here workout anymore?
I have attempted a couple of times this past year. NOTE: ATTEMPTED- did not succeed at all. Ended up getting very sick each time I tried and learned it is just not in my best interest. Today I am just going to the gym and lift weights. Hope that won't backfire on me as well. I used to be a yogi for over 15 years and now just the thought makes me think: ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN!!! ![]() Coffeegirl |

Well no.... not me either, although I wish I still could.
![]() I do try to walk about an hour a day and I torture myself every day on my exercise bike, but that's about the extent of it. I would love to be able to attend jazzercise or aerobics again but alas, I'd spent more time on the floor (falling over) than I would doing the class. I am far too unsteady these days, but if some-one were to arrange a class for those on canes, or rollators..... I'd be in it! ![]()

You both made me laugh!!!
![]() ![]() Once upon a time, a long, long time ago.... I did yoga. It was a peaceful time. Yoga was a very quiet and calm exercise but balance was the key to it all. Balance- yes, that is truly an understatement. Balance and vertigo are two very different things when it comes to people who have absolutely NO balance! ![]() I've tried numerous times to do a yoga pose here/there... only to fall a) flat on my face b) fall over and hurt myself c) fall over and onto something and still hurt myself Walked the dog last night with son. Kept walking off the curb and sidewalk. That is even a dangerous thing to do. Still frustrating. ![]() Koala: Maybe the exercise bike might work? Can it cause injury? Coffeegirl |

Yoga is my saving grace. Pilates is also great for when I have extra energy, but I would simply not be able to do a full run at the gym like in days gone by.
Hang in there. ![]()

Dejibo: How do you do yoga? I sure wish I could... My vertigo/balance is so off I can't hardly walk straight. Sad... Wish I could. I understand why you say it is your saving grace. It is so peaceful and makes the body feel so good. My body currently feels like flubber-blubber-jello. Never in my entire life has it been like that. Ever. I hate it. Just want to cry myself puddles due to feeling like a jello mold. Yes- there are worse things. Just am frustrated not being able to do things I used to do. At least the last two days I could clean the house. So, I was positive and happy about that. Being able to do the laundry and run the vacuum made me 'feel good'. Speaking of which- need to get busy for the day!

As much as I enjoy walking outside I believe (for me, at least) a controlled environment is safest. Either a treadmill or stationary bike would be best for me. There's too many factors to consider being outside (uneven ground, temperature, bright sunlight, etc.). None of which used to be an issue for me...but now they're things I have to think about.
Resistance training using free weights is probably good as long as you don't overdo it, can hold onto the weight safely and don't get overheated. I'm of the opinion that any exercise is good as long as you don't overdo it and can handle the pace. I try to incorporate housework and daily living activities into my "exercise" routine by walking and stretching as much as I possibly can throughout the day.

The PT told me to avoid the treadmill until the vertigo gets under control. Wonder how long that will take? The vertigo has gotten better but when it happens it appears out of nowhere.
![]() Thank you for the advice everyone. It has given me a lot of hope and inspiration that whatever is going on with my messed up body- I can deal with it head on and still find ways to get some type of exercise (even if it is little) - but enough for some mental gain if anything. Coffeegirl |

I have a Pilates DVD that is all on the floor on a mat and is for beginners. I have tried several times over the last year to get back to it (a flare knocked me out of me routine) but I keep having symptoms get worse every time I do.
I just did my Pilates today, hopefully I can finally get back into the swing of things. I have gained 45 lbs in the last year and am so sick of this! I hope you find something that works for you. I hear water aerobics are great and the balance thing isn't as much of an issue, if you can find a pool where the water isn't too warm. Our local pool is so hot I can't move just after walking into the room. Let me know what works for you, hopefully you can find it soon. |

![]() I used to go to yoga classes once weekly, but I got to the stage I just couldn't do it any more. My body just refused to bend the way it should. Pilates, as already mentioned, and Tai Chi are quite popular here among MSers, and although I did try them, neither were for me. So, I'll stick to my long walks and my several miles/Kms each day on my bike. That's my workout for now.
