Default What the heck was that?

I’ve had MS for most of my life, and I never had any paralysis as a symptom. I do have numbness, but it isn’t wide spread. The other day I had a half an hour or so where things on my right side weren’t quite right. My whole right arm had reduced feeling. It sort of felt like it was asleep, and my fingers had no fine motor skills. The right side of my face had reduced feeling, and my right foot/leg was affected similarly, though to a lesser degree than my arm.

This is my concern: Was this an MS thing, or should I suspect a mini-stroke? I am 63, so mini-stroke isn’t out of the question, and I sure wouldn’t want to ignore a warning sign.

Whaddya think?

There are things called TIA or Trans ischemic attacks. They are a mini stroke. Please call your MD and go in! Better to be told its an MS things and go home, then to find out it was a precursor to a stroke and be admitted for weeks.

I agree with the others, Marion. Better safe than sorry. At least if it is something that needs to be addressed you can have a choice in the matter versus being in an emergency situation that might cause permanent damage.

That must have been pretty scary. I hope and pray you felt better as the evening went on, but glad to hear you're seeing your pcp. Please let us know how you're doing.

I saw my PCP this morning, and he ordered a whole lot of blood work. He also calmed me down when he reminded me that my last two angiograms showed that the blood vessels are quite clear. He said that means that the likelihood of a stroke is greatly reduced. He said that I shouldn’t panic because he isn’t panicking, and that he isn’t just going to put me on a bunch of anti-clotting medication unless they are really necessary.

What a relief! So many other doctors would just put me on a bunch of blood thinners and send me on my way. I really like my PCP. He said that if my blood work comes back OK, I should mention it to my MS doctor.

i'm glad you had a speedy doctor appt.
your dr sounds very level headed.

chances are that if you had had a stroke the sx's would have lasted longer.
you might have had facial drooping and or trouble speaking.

you're right to assume that everything isn't MS related and you did the right thing.
