Crazy Hypercoagulation...WHAT???

Okay, I am about to gross even myself out.

But, this was the second time I have been told that my blood is very thick - it took forever to get the blood to fill the vials.

So, I looked it up - its called hypercoagulation and its not a good thing to have!! LOL

Prime candidate for a stroke or heart problems! And, I drink water every hour of the day, take 2 -1200 mg fish oil caps 3 X daily - on Vit D 50,000IU once weekly-Vit C, etc.

Im going to the doc next week and mention this to her. I even have taken a baby aspirin daily for past 6 years.

The interesting info was how when the blood is this thick, viruses, cancer, diseases can lay hidden for years before being discovered. Also, causes lack of oxygen to vital organs, cells, tissue etc of body.

I knew this monster was hiding itself! Now, I know where it is hiding and I've got both gun barrels aimed right for the little bugger.

A Hunting we shall go...A hunting we shall go...HiHo A Dairy O...A Hunting we shall go.

ANyone else with thick blood???

Default hi from Mariel

I have no trouble getting blood out when I have tests. Yet I have too many platelets and red cells, a condition of my bone marrow which produces too many. The only time I had trouble getting blood out was when I had a poor
technician who didn't do it well.

I never heard of stuff hiding in the thick blood. I do think the Swank diet for MS (low saturated fat) may help you if you have thick blood by possibly keeping your arteries clearer?

Dr. Swank thought that MS blood particles stuck together and moved less swiftly than those of normal blood. So what relationship that has to this...who knows?

Blood is normally about three times thicker than water. With thick blood problems it can be up to ten times thicker than water.

I know of someone in my past years who had to give blood once a month until the blood thinned out upon testing by the doctor who ordered it.

She gave about a pint a month. I assume they dispose of it, I don't know. Some nationalities have a tendency also to have thick blood.

Your doctor will be able to assist you if you do have this problem. There are medications too for this, besides having blood taken at regular intervals.

Don't assume you have the very worst. Wait for a doctor to declare it and give you a dx. If you are heated, or have a temperature, your blood will be thicker too.

I think red wine thickens it too but don't hold me to that. My grandmother used to say that. She came from a very cold northern climate and took a small amount of red wine to make her blood thicker to withstand the cold. This could be one of those old wives tales that worked, who knows. But not good for you.

So diet may pay a part in this too. They say dizziness, nausea, headaches and blurry vision can happen with thick blood if you lack some Oxygen to body.

I hope you get tested to be sure. Good luck to you. This is all just my opinion. I am not a doctor.

If anyone wants to give some of that thicker blood away, I would like to volunteer myself.

My blood is too thin, and I have had low platelets for the last eighteen years. My spleen 'eats' them, thinking that they are a foreign 'nasty'. Another one to add to the autoimmune cocktail.

I can't take aspirin at all. Funny how it all works out.

Cheers

Lyn

Thanks all - this is the third time over period of years that this has been commented on. There is some interesting reading on this hypercoagulation and its affect on the body especially if it prevents oxygen and nutrients from being able to get to proper organs and channels etc.

Too tired to explain.

So, I am drinking lots of green tea until I can get to docs nect week or two.

Thanks for any help. It was the reason I was put on baby aspirin 6 yrs ago but I think this calls for a more serious consideration or awareness with present doc. Doesnt hurt to ask (!) or so my therapist keeps reminding me.

every now and again I run into this thick blood stuff, and then it goes away. I am told to donate blood would be helpful for me, even if they throw it away. My blood is so confused.

This is a strange thread, wondering why some here have thick blood beyond that which Dr. Swank described, which he found in my blood many years ago.

The disease I have which thickens blood is called Polycythemia Vera. I have had it about
5 years. I do get phlebotomies, but too many of them cause low Ferritin (iron stores).
I may have to take Interferon, a chemo which causes lots of side effects. Or just live
with this condition, which may cause a stroke.

I do lots of praying and hope God will take care of me no matter what comes.
