yeah, as soon as I make that comment about the bra. The next day I wake up and the whole right side of my body in that area is numb and my bra is driving me up a blankety-blank-blank-lots-of-swear-words wall!
I blankety-blank-blank jinxed myself. argh!!! I wonder if my sport bra is more comfortable because being with or without a bra is not comfortable at all. Maybe it's the fabric that's driving me nuts?

Aw, Erin! Sorry you jinxed yourself. I have been going braless all week. I just can't get that dang thing back on. Even went to the dr. without one, which it is very rare I ever leave the house without. It just irritates that nerve so much.
I have heard sports bras are actually very comfortable. I don't have one so I've never tried one. I try to get bras that have a soft and comfortable band. I have yet to try one of the foam ones but am seriously thinking about it. I hope your side starts feeling better soon. ![]() |

Well, I tried a sport bra, one of my mom's, since I cant seem to find mine, and it was too tight. Or at least it felt too tight. It was irritating the back of my neck. But, yeah, it's the fabric that my regular bra is made out of that was causing me problems. It just felt rough and uncomfortable for me.
I guess I'm going to be wearing my big sweatshirt a lot this week. Probably a good thing it's cold out. Frumpy, dumpy clothes wont advertise the fact that there's no bra on. I'm one of those people who probably *needs* to be wearing a bra. Too bad the MS is picking on me this week. It's really weird that I can tell where the invisible line is in my body where the numbness starts.

A tightness around your middle and chest area and mine didn't hurt but some do and you usually can't stand tight clothes...

Sometimes it feels like someone has taken a belt or put a boa constrictor around my waist and is tightening it. Depends on whether or not you just have an invisible belt lightly tightening around your waist, or if you have a giant invisible boa constrictor squeezing the life out of you to be really painful or not.
Last night, it wasnt even around my ribs. It was around my waist and low back. Wearing jeans was out of the question, and even my sweatpants were uncomfortable. Ended up spending half the evening not wearing any pants. (thank goodness I didnt have anywhere to go last night. Stayed home and watched tv) I had to take some valium to get a little relief. I really dont like it when the Hug is picking on me. Too bad I cant get my parents or other relatives to understand what it feels like. Only people who "get it" are people who actually get the Hug.

Uh oh...Trish I just reread the posts. Does Gabapentin cause mood disturbances? I've been uncontrollably crabby for several days now...no matter what mind tricks the therapist gave me I use, I can't overcome it...

I quit taking gabapentin because it didnt do anything for me, made my feet swell up, and it made me feel like I was about to lose my mind.
I would get kind of grumpy. (ok, more than grumpy) And since the stuff didnt seem to work, I'd take a little bit more, which would make my mood worse. I'd rather be uncomfortable and have control of my emotions. Altho, right now I'm about to lose my mind from being really uncomfortable right now. (really really numb today and feeling it getting worse as the day goes by) Really wish there was a drug that would help the weird sensations, but in my experience, there arent any that work on me. Except maybe prednisone (because it reduces inflammation), but I'm really not wanting to go that route yet. Mostly because it makes me feel just as crazy as the gabapentin does.

Kadi - Yes, it's a banding feeling that wraps around an area of your body. Mine is mostly in my left rib cage. Not only do the muscle spasm but I get nerve pain as well. Some compare the pain to having shingles. When it acts up it can even make breathing difficult and painful. It's my worst and most frustrating symptom.
Debbie - I have been very lucky with gabapentin. I normally don't do well with most meds but I have not had any side effects from the gabapentin. The only times I have had trouble is when trying to increase it. I did go to the dr the other day and there is some talk about weaning me off it and putting me on something else. I am on such a low low dose of it. But, I have heard of people who have mood disturbances and such while taking gabapentin as well as some of the other anticonvulsants. Erin - I wish there was a med or something to take care of this pain. While gabapentin has been such a blessing to me, I still get breakthrough pain. I do find that massage therapy helps by relaxing the muscles. My muscles get in a tight mess in my ribs. But the massage therapy doesn't help with nerve pain. Advil has been helping with the inflammation and some of the pain I have going on so I am thankful for that. |

Something is going on with me right now. In the couple of hours it's been since I posted, I've got one heck of a nerve pain running thru my hip. Feels like sciatic pain, but a little different. It's kind of making my back hurt and that weird pain wraps around my right buttcheek and goes into the front part of my upper leg.
I've gotten more numb as this day has gone on. I feel like *swearwords*. I'm tired as heck, and just do not feel good, and I've got a mom (who lacks an empathy gene) upstairs who is mad because both me and my dad (who has asthma and a heart condition) dont feel good this weekend and dont want to go anywhere. I'd love to have the energy to go somewhere because then maybe she'd stop *swearwording* at me. Dont think I have a cold or any other infections that I know of. But geeze, the MS is picking a really inconvenient time to have keep mugging me for my spoons. It's really tiring being so tired and icky feeling all the time. I really wish my MS wasnt so freaking active.
