Okay, I don't believe I have been doing anything different as far as my eyes go.
But since last summer I have noticed that my eyes seem to be really sensitive to bright lights. I mean it really hurts. If I go outdoors on a bright sunny day, I actually have to close my eyes because they hurt! Today the snow reflection is so bright that my eyes hurt. We have a kitchen lighting system that has 2 adjustments...bright and turbo bright. They are fluorescent and I can't stand the turbo! Is this an M.S.thing? I just had an eye examination and I don't seem to have any issues with my eyes other than age related.

Hi Karilann,
Very bright lights do the same thing to me. I don't know if it's MS related. This has been ongoing for a long while- grocery stores and such. Recently, we had an energy audit and they replaced the conventional bulbs in the LR ceiling (6) with whatever they call the squiggly ones. Even dimmed they bother me. There is not a setting between off and all the way on that is OK w me. Not enough light or hurting my eyes- those are the choices. It has gotten to where we enjoy the skylights during the day and have no light or just a small task light in the evening. Let me know if you find out more and I'll do the same. ANN |

Bright lights used to do the same thing to me, it was horrible. I found polarized sunglasses really helped. Even if I had to wear them indoors.

Yes, me too. I've always been ultra sensitive to bright lights. I always thought it was a blond/light skinned/blue/green eye thingy. I think I'll blame MS too..

I find those CFL bulbs or compact fluorescent lights are horrible! I switched them all out of my house in favor of halogen or LED stuff. Fluorescent lights give off a mercury vapor when they heat up, and that can cause headaches. I was so upset when the hospital laid me directly under a fluorescent light fixture.

I read the title to this thread and thought, "Eye stain? What is that?" (Thinking it was some testing thing I never heard of.) Guess I'm having one of those moments.
I'm more sensitive to light than I used to be. It hurts my eyes if things are too bright but also I have difficulty if it is too dim. I never made the connection to MS though. I just figured it was allergies or dry air or something like that. Now you have me thinking. |
