I was dxd with exercise induced asthma when I was 35...I used to break out in hives and then had asthma attacks when I got overheated, even when swimming. I didn't get dxd with MS until I was 53.
DD27 also has exercise induced asthma. Yesterday she ran a half marathon in Green Bay. The temps got into the 90s. She took her inhaler & used it before the race. By the time she got to mile 10 she really started to struggle. She did finish, and they rushed her to the med tent and put ice on her neck, head and pulse points. They stopped the race about 15 min. after she finished; they'd run out of ambulances ![]() Anyway, have any of you heard of this possibly being one of those quirky early signs of MS (the heat intolerance is the concern I have)...

Hopefully the heat and exertion was just enough to trigger her asthma. I personally haven't heard of exercise induced asthma as a s/s of MS although I would imagine someone who reacts negatively to the heat might respond with breathing difficulties if they have asthma.
My super charged running friends have also reported the 10 mile mark being where things start to go south when they run the half marathon. FWIW I haven't had MS issues related to being overheated and I run although never more than the 5k. Kudos to your daughter for being so fit.

I was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma as a kid. I know of someone who must have been in that same half marathon. She got just past mile ten when they canceled. She is new to running and trying to lose weight. She was pacing herself and felt good, like she could finish. But they stopped it. She's kind of bummed she had to stop but glad they were looking out for everyone. |

I am not aware of asthma being a sign of MS. Many people develop asthma or exercise induced asthma and do not have MS. My PCP and his ex-PA both have asthma but do not have MS.
My daughter was born with asthma and is now 20 years old, but rarely needs medication anylonger. My son was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma when he was in 5th grade. He is now 22 and no longer has a problem with exercise induced asthma. I have never had asthma.

Thanks for all the advice...I forgot that I had asthma when I was a little girl...wool, dust, some weird things would set it off; it disappeared until the exercise asthma reared it's head...
