Oh. My. Goodness.
Do you guys have any tips on how to deal with the heat/humidity? I don't have AC at my house, it seems as though this will be the first spring/summer that I've been seriously "ill" (with whatever is wrong with me). Today is trying to do me in! I appreciate all the help. I feel awful and don't want to complain too much. My family isn't too tolerant about the "it's hot" statement. Of course it's hot, they say. We have no AC, they say. ![]() They can feel all their limbs, you know? ![]() Just had to get that off my chest. |

Is looking around for a hand-me down AC possible? I feel for you. It is, hot out, today!
I had one, in my bedroom, that got ruined, in the fall, thanks to well, a most *sarcastically* 'wonderful' ex husband. I asked my dad, if he knew of anyone, who had a spare, but to the tune of 'Home Depot has them for good prices" ![]() ![]() I am going to search around, even those 'good prices' are a bit of a budget stretch, right now. ![]() I have insomnia, as it is, never mind MS, and getting a good nights sleep is a must!! Hang in there, hoping you find an AC sooner, than later ![]()

I feel for you Wing. I actually could not live without my AC.
![]() I woke up helpless last week, from an afternoon nap. The AC wasn't on yet, and the heat in the house rose to 75. I Couldn't move, hard to breath. It took me forever, just to get on my scooter from the couch and to the hall to turn on the AC. It was scary!!!!! If the AC would go out during a storm, I'd have to call 911. We haven't had a really bad storm since it gotten hot, but I pray every day that my AC stays working. Have the Neuro inform your Parents how important it is to your health. The heat and humidity is brutal to peeps with MS. When I was younger, it wasn't as awful as is is now for me, but I must have AC.

I'm going to do my best to get an AC for summer proper. It had only ought to be awful tomorrow and then cool back down where I'll be okay.
We have to be a bit cautious on AC units-we blow fuses frequently if we do too many. However, I casually mentioned it to the fam earlier tonight (while trying not to just shout about it) and was told that my room would be one for AC. So this is a good thing. My BF gave us a unit at the end of last summer that we can use (is he a keeper or what? ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm just going to lie low tomorrow - wish me luck. Might see if we can go to the movies. Plenty cool there! I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the encouragement--I just feel surprisingly awful. It's always been hot, we've always had no AC but apparently now, whatever is wrong with me (since we don't know for sure) means I don't tolerate it like I used to. So happy I found you all! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I really feel for you. I feel the heat terribly, and I don't perspire - I just go red in the face and cook from the inside out. When it gets too bad, and I have no access to air-conditioning, sometimes spraying myself with water and sitting in front of a normal fan helps me heaps.
Anything that reduces your core temperature will help you to regain neurological function. I am so sorry - I know what it's like to turn to jelly and have your brain turn to fog and marshmallow cream when the heat is on. xx

Put a bowl of ice in front of a fan and blow it on yourself. I
remember that works too. Or get some cooling scarves/ bands, wet them, put them in the freezer for awhile and wrap them around your neck/wrists.

Here in fla. humidity is a factor too. Try for a used air conditioner just for one room, a window unit. Also a de-humidifier that takes water out of the air helps, and of course a good fan. Your local Moose club, or other organization, may be able to help because you are sick. Often these organizations help others. I would even try all the goodwills in your area by calling. You can also run an add in the local newpaper in the wanted section for very little money. I sure hope you can get some relief. The trend is for the weather to be hotter than normal this year. I wish you all the best. ginnie

Contact the MSAA and see what assistance programs they have. They can usually help out with the cost of some of these items.
http://www.mymsaa.org/ http://mymsaa.org/msaa-help/cooling/ If you're not good at looking things up just call the 1-800 number at he lower left corner (800-532-7667) to speak with someone there and tell them what you need. They've helped me before. Good luck. ![]()

I just wanted to thank you all soo much! It's cooled off just a little and I've already felt a difference. My family helped me set up fans to maximize cooling. The BF took me to a movie tonight and tomorrow it had ought to cool more.
I think once the rain passes the AC unit the BF gave me will be going in my window and I'll be in heaven. I'm also having an excellent day because it seems as though the topamax is finally having an effect on my tremor. It's so exciting! ![]() Thank you so much again for your generous help. I still don't know exactly what is wrong, but I find you all such a comfort. ![]() |
