Angry I have optic neuritis (again!)

My left eye started to hurt a little last week when moving my eye side to side. I decided to let it go a couple of days just in case it was allergies, since last week was kind of a pain on my allergies.

It was a little more sore over the weekend. Yesterday I had to wait at home for UPS to show up with my new computer, and the computer distracted me a bit and my eye didn't really hurt yesterday. Woke up this morning and my eye was sore again, so I called the eye doctor.

Of course, every time I have an issue with vision, that means the eye doctor will be out of town at a conference, or he'll be on vacation. (it's vacation this time) Good for me that one of the other ophthalmologists at his office had a bunch of open space this afternoon. Which I thought was actually kind of a bonus, because my eye doctor is always so busy that if I call with a kind of eye emergency, I end up having to sit in the waiting room for hours to get in to see him.

I only had to wait ten minutes today to see the other doctor. (YAY!) She looked at my eyes, said that I had the pupillary (sp?) defect, and that my left optic nerve was mildly inflamed or whatever it is. She immediately went to call my neuro to see if they could get me some IV steroids (ummm...yay?)

She said she wanted to make sure that we got the inflammation taken care of before it starts to affect my vision. Said she didn't like it when people can't see. (I also don't like it when I can't see. I like this eye doctor) She wanted to make sure that I'll still be able to see. Hopefully the neuro agrees with her.

Tonight I can tell there's something going on with the vision. Now that I know I wasn't imagining things. My eye just feels weird. I think this explains the weird vertigo I was getting the other day when I was sitting outside reading in some bright sunshine, and might also explain some vertigo that came on while I was reading a book in the house the other day. Something about the eye movement and whatever bizarre things the optic nerve(s) might be doing.

I should know at least by noon tomorrow (wednesday) if I'm getting an IV of steroids or not. The neuro wasn't in the office today (as usual) but he'll be there tomorrow. She said she'd start calling his office in the morning at 8am until she gets a hold of him and said that she'd call me before she leaves the office at noon. Again, I like this doctor.
