My left eye started to hurt a little last week when moving my eye side to side. I decided to let it go a couple of days just in case it was allergies, since last week was kind of a pain on my allergies.
It was a little more sore over the weekend. Yesterday I had to wait at home for UPS to show up with my new computer, and the computer distracted me a bit and my eye didn't really hurt yesterday. Woke up this morning and my eye was sore again, so I called the eye doctor. Of course, every time I have an issue with vision, that means the eye doctor will be out of town at a conference, or he'll be on vacation. (it's vacation this time) Good for me that one of the other ophthalmologists at his office had a bunch of open space this afternoon. Which I thought was actually kind of a bonus, because my eye doctor is always so busy that if I call with a kind of eye emergency, I end up having to sit in the waiting room for hours to get in to see him. I only had to wait ten minutes today to see the other doctor. (YAY!) She looked at my eyes, said that I had the pupillary (sp?) defect, and that my left optic nerve was mildly inflamed or whatever it is. She immediately went to call my neuro to see if they could get me some IV steroids (ummm...yay?) She said she wanted to make sure that we got the inflammation taken care of before it starts to affect my vision. Said she didn't like it when people can't see. (I also don't like it when I can't see. I like this eye doctor) She wanted to make sure that I'll still be able to see. Hopefully the neuro agrees with her. Tonight I can tell there's something going on with the vision. Now that I know I wasn't imagining things. My eye just feels weird. I think this explains the weird vertigo I was getting the other day when I was sitting outside reading in some bright sunshine, and might also explain some vertigo that came on while I was reading a book in the house the other day. Something about the eye movement and whatever bizarre things the optic nerve(s) might be doing. I should know at least by noon tomorrow (wednesday) if I'm getting an IV of steroids or not. The neuro wasn't in the office today (as usual) but he'll be there tomorrow. She said she'd start calling his office in the morning at 8am until she gets a hold of him and said that she'd call me before she leaves the office at noon. Again, I like this doctor.

Hoping that you get treatment quickly for this bout of ON Erin. What terrible timing; with your new computer arriving and all.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. ![]() With love, Erika |

yeah, the timing sucks. My dad keeps having to put off his health issues, mostly for my mother's health issues. I told him that if his doctor calls and says they're ready to put in his pacemaker, and if it's at the same time I'm getting IV steroids, that I'll take a cab to the infusion center, and see if a relative or a friend of mine can drive me home.
Or, I'll see if I can go ahead and try to drive. I haven't been driving my new car for the last few weeks because I had really horrible spasticity in my feet and just didn't feel like driving. Going to see if driving myself will be ok, as long as the MS trolls that keep picking on me don't start to actually do anything to my vision. So far, it's just been pain and the eye doctor seeing the pupillary (sp?) defect in that eye. I'm hoping that since I gave my b-in-law my old car (still waiting for him to say "thank you" to me for that, by the way) that maybe he could drive my dad to the hospital if my dad's doctor ever says they're ready for his pacemaker. Maybe I could get a ride to or from the infusion center too.

Eye doctor just called. She talked to the neuro, and he wants me to wait on the steroids. Which I'm kind of ok with at the moment.
The eye pain isn't excruciating, and I can still see. They said if any of that changes, to call them. I wasn't exactly looking forward to several days of IV steroids.

I hope everything goes well for your Dd and that you feel better
soon, without the evil steroids.

Good luck and I hope it doesn't get worse so you won't need the steroids. Good luck to your dad too. Having multiple health problems in the same family is stress by itself. ![]() |
