Default Hearing Music??

Ok so like I've really had insomnia for the last couple of days off and on. One night I would be able to sleep 10-12 hrs, then all of sudden could not sleep at all for more than 24 hrs. then when i do go to sleep, its only for 4-5 hrs. go to bed that night, sleep 10-12 hrs, then tonight I can't sleep a wink.

its a little after 4am here now. So - I've noticed since this all happened in the last week, coupled with my trip to the ER last Monday, which I've explained that in a previous post.

Three times this has happened - the first time I heard like relaxation music, then I thought I heard my grandmother and brother talking - now this was in the middle of the night, and I wasn't asleep - so I got up and they were asleep of course. 2nd and third time I heard was music.

Relaxation music and tonight I heard like a band with guitars like country or something. I can't tell what is said, but it very faint but you can hear it. I'm not crazy - I'm telling ya this MS stuff is just absolutely weird now.

One other thing I've noticed - I feel like there is sometimes air in my ears, not sure why lol

I'm not sure if its MS related or an auditory de-funk....

But I have it also. I describe it as lying in bed at night and hearing music play like my alarm clock radio volume is turned wayyyyy down but is on.

I did this a couple times in high school and set my alarm clock radio to go off (which it did) but the volume was turned down so low you would only hear it in the dead of silence.

And that's exactly how I describe what I have now.....only there is no alarm clock radio in my room to blame it on!

Wait, everybody doesn't hear music in their heads, all the time, like constantly? Ha ha.

When my PTSD (or my MS flare, who knows) started last year, that was one of my complaints. I couldn't stop hearing music. I told this to my PCP at the time, who I've since fired because she told me my thyroid symptoms were in my head. She had no answer and I never really followed up on it. I did go to the ear doc, who said I had an auditory processing issue. Since I knew my ears were okay, I just put it in the "another brain thing" pile and move on.

Yesterday I was in the kitchen flat out dancing to a song that keeps being played on the radio, but was only playing for me. I constantly check my phone thinking I've heard it. This doesn't happen so much now that I have a specific song for it (the Muppets Mana Mana song). I think I hear my daughter calling me, nope. I hear odd stuff all the time that isn't really happening. And then when people do talk, I don't hear the correct thing, it's all jumbled up. I have to ask people to look at me when they talk so I can read their lips. My hearing is totally perfectly fine, my brain just can't put it together right.

The more stressed one is, and the less sleep there is, the more apt this will be. I think one of the good ways to deal with it is to actually play music. Give that brain something to listen to.

Now if you hear somebody whispering to you, that's ghosts! That's totally different

Exhaustion can do funny things to a person. Then again, so can't brain lesions!

If I had to bring this to my doctors attention, here's how I believe it would all play out...

1st Dr(perhaps my primary): It could be your MS.
2nd Dr(perhaps my neuro): Let's get an MRI done. Nope, no new lesions, go see your psychiatrist.
3rd Dr(by this point, my psychiatrist): I have no idea why this is happening, what happens before this happens? Can you change what is happening before it is happening to see if anything changes? Let's verify, what meds you are on. Ok. Hmmmm, shouldn't be a result of any of the meds you are on. Try to sleep more, and get back to me, on the next visit if nothing has changed. And then would ask, are you seeing your psychologist/social worker/aka therapist.

At which point, talk therapy. Almost a ruthless cycle, is it not?

And that is the fun of being an MS patient, everyone

PS...I agree, about the ghosts

I had this decades ago in my worst exacerbation. Music would not stop 24/7. Selections were Williams Chorale, Tchaikovsky, and Mozart, just those three--very good taste, but horrible when it won't stop. Only drugs made it stop when finally I was in the hospital. Abrupt stop. I am so glad this was not a permanent fixture.
