I went to my PCP today and this is what I found out - he is taking me off rebif to see if its the cause. he is also prescribing some meds to help me sleep, and if in a week I don't feel better then we will go to the next step.
I'm going to stay off Rebif until I go to the MS Center on Aug 19th to see what they will say. I forgot the names of the medications he is putting me on until then, so I'll update it when I get them filled this afternoon. |

Glad you have someone who is listening to you and trying to work with you. Maybe you will figure out what is going on or at least have someone on your side. Good luck.
Sending prayers that you will feel better soon. |

I was prescribed Phenergan for nausea. It knocked me right out and I slept for several hours after I took it.

Phenergan is very sedating. You should make a list of all your
drugs, and then go to the free drugchecker and look them up. http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.php Phenergan is related to the antipsychotic drugs used for schizophrenia and bipolar. It has some antinausea and antihistamine properties, but is not as strong as the first gen antihistamines like Benadryl. Phenergan is typically used for nausea control due to use of opiates. It can be very sedating. Don't hesitate to consult your pharmacist. Mixing many different drugs can create situations that are complex and unexpected so be very careful with all your medications.

I took it years ago when I had a bad case of food poisoning. It helped with the nausea but I didn't like the way it made me feel. I have not taken it since. In fact, I haven't taken any antinausea meds since that time other than when they gave me morphine in the hospital when I had a bad exacerbation last year. But, they gave me Zofran. I liked Zofran much better and was able to tolerate it well. Zofran is expensive though, even with insurance.

Yes, Phenergan is not the best anti-nausea drug.
But supply problems have plagued the other two drugs previously used. Compazine and Tigan are much stronger. Prochlorperazine (compazine) has stronger phenothiazine side effects too. It is typically only used for a day or two for GI viruses/food poisoning. Daily use is discouraged today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prochlorperazine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trimethobenzamide Zofran remains highly expensive. It was originally developed for chemo nausea, but they use it now for other types including migraine. Even the generic costs alot. There is an OTC product called Emetrol. http://emetrol.com/ It works like Coca Cola syrup directly on the stomach receptors, to block the signals going to the brain. It is mild but effective for some people. Wears off fairly quickly, but much safer than many of the RX drugs. Phenergan is better tolerated but also has weaker antinausea actions. It was at one time very popular in RX cough syrups. There is a Phenergan cream in Canada OTC for itching. Or was last time I was there.
