Kelly - I have both intention tremors from MS and essential tremors (hereditary). I can't really tell the difference but the neuro can. Apparently there is a difference. Not only do my hands shake sometimes but they can all of a sudden jerk and go off in a different direction. The gabapentin I takes helps with that and has made a difference in my tremors and what I can do now. I'm on the gabapentin for nerve pain but it helping the tremors is a bonus.

I also get tremors (ataxia) in my trunk and in my legs. Those are tougher as standing can be difficult due to the shaking in the trunk and the legs. But, they are far more entertaining.

My mom as well as a brother, a sister, and a cousin all have essential tremors. My mom's is severe. She was put on gabapentin for neuropathy but, like me, it has helped her tremors too. She can now do so much more that she wasn't able to. She has good days and bad days but she can write now, use utensils without spilling as much, control the mouse, etc.

I posted an article once on here about the different types of tremors. I'll see if I can find it again.
