Hi
Considering I saw this idea on the fiction show "house" LOL I dont know if its true or not but am curious to know since my good side has a bum shoulder. They made a comment about those four footed canes being easier on the shoulder ? Arent they hard to lift and walk tho ? Heck I trip over a straight cane already Thanks for input |

Hello sloth,
I believe you are referring to what is known as a Quad Cane. I've never used one, but I have seen Physical Therapists prescribe them. I don't believe they are much heavier in weight than a regular cane. I would suggest a session with either a Physical Therapist or a Physiatrist. They will be able to analyze your gait and recommend which type of cane would be best suited for you. Do you think your Neurologist would be willing to make a referral to either a PT or a Physiatrist? I'm sure your insurance would defray the majority of the cost of one visit should they recommend a visit with someone. Good luck, and keep us posted. All the best, Chris

LMAO! Sloth, I'm thinking 4-foot cane? That would kill my shoulder!
Seriously, any ill-fitting cane can cause development of joint pain. Always have your cane fitted and learn to use it appropriately for your needs. My PT also told me to call when my legs have changes (progression) to make sure that the cane is still the right thing. He did my walker and I learned that it was too high, I was shocked at what a difference the proper fit made for me.
