Hi Dorrie! Don't cha just hate it when vacations end.... *sigh*

Next time the Boss degrades you, remind him of "on the job harrassment"...

Don't take no Poo from him anymore... You are so above people like that... As my dear brother would say.. What a waste of skin!!!!

Glad you had a great get a way....

(I'd hire you!, but I don't have a business and I don't work and I don't live by you and ... and... and.... You get my drift, right D????)

Mornin' all. It's a rainy day in west MI but it's cool and I'll take it. I've been low on ambition lately and have been trying to take it easy.

Last night I went to a T-Ball free-for-all involving a wild pack of befuddled 4-5 yr. olds and some assorted sporting goods. It was hysterical and I recommend it highly for cheap but excellent entertainment. I was frequently reminded of Tom Hanks in "A League of Their Own" when he uttered in total frustration, "There's no crying in baseball!" It was really cute seeing three base runners overrun each other nowhere near the baseline and then land on top of one another at homeplate in a heap of triumphant joy.

Dorrie, I'm so glad you had a nice vacation, it does so much for the spirit. Do let us know how hard you kick your soon-to-be former boss. Take video if possible!

How's the bod, Flygirl??

I am doing better. Still so darn tired. I had a couple of errands to do yesterday and then slept for 14 hours. Geez...can't seem to gain any ground.

Here's a bit of excitement going on here!

Saturday when DH's brother arrived, we noticed a hornet's nest hanging in my favorite Cherry tree in the front yard. Upon further inspection, it was discovered to be a bald-faced hornet's nest. Not just any ordinary hornet, but those bad-*** ones! Of course, DH and I are both highly allergic (we both carry epi-pens for these guys!).

The nest has now tripled in size since Saturday night - it is about a foot long and at least that much in diameter - think soccer ball size, maybe larger!

This mission has been on to try to find a pest control company to come get this thing. No one wants to deal with these bad guys.

Lo and behold! Terminix called me back last night and said they take care of hornets. I was doubtful as this was thier "corporate line."

Their local office just called me back this morning and I explained to the the technician just exactly what they were up against and she said she would call me right back. They agreed to come out and take care of it and guarantee it would not come back! So for a mere $342 and a one year contract for all my yard and house --- she agreed to that before she asked me how big my yard was , I said you got it Lady! Then we talked particulars about the size of my house and yard. I got a good deal.

I can't even go outside to that part of the yard, which is where my berries are right now and they are ready to be picked! Darnnit...

I want a picture of this big ol' nest before they remove it. It's huge. But I can't get close enough to get one. These types of hornets have sentries and it's the sentries that get you. And with my luck...we won't go there!

This is what the nest looks like except this one isn't mine.

Be warned, FG, they're going to take the whole limb, it's how they can guarantee it won't be back.

Meantime, if you can round up the local racoons, they'll tear into it and have a feast, they love those things. Not kidding! Coons will eat every last one of them, even dead ones.

And FG, you're right, don't risk it! After an attack from a batch of 'em that left me with 225 known hits, I was helpless for days, and I'm not allergic!

They can have the whole limb. We have 'coons in the neighborhood and so far they haven't found this nest! It's about 15' up in the tree! I think the 'coons are more interested in the new hatches of Quail. We also have 2 new Red Fox dens with kits as well. They are so cute. One den has 4 kits and I think the other pair has at least 2.

We've also spotted 3 Mule Deer bucks who've made a home in our neighbor's pasture. 2 of them are at least 4 points and the other one is a bit bigger. Haven't been able to count the points on him yet, but they are nice sized bucks. Still in velvet. They are beautiful. He was going to mow his pasture but decided to leave the grass for the deer! Nice guy!

Here's a picture of the nest. I didn't venture tooooooo close!

What a shame, it's a beautiful tree and it has a good shape. When I said "limb" I didn't mean "branch". You're gonna have a hole, I'm afraid. I'm always sad to see a tree take a hit like that.

It looks like a bloody condo! I could spot 4, maybe 5 different inlets. Sheesh, get inside and stay there!

Beautiful tree, FG. I can see why anyone would want to make it their home.

When we lived in the country, we had one of those in a tree on the property next to us. My DD, 4 at the time, played there with the neighbor kids. The kids were throwing rocks at it.

I called the county and they had it taken down, free of charge. Actually the neighbors took it down themselves, after the County told them to do so, and saved it. All the monsters were dead and gone though.

Before it was down, I had opened my front door and one flew into my house, but turned around and left without attacking anyone. I didn't see this...my DH was standing next to me, saw it and didn't tell me, until it was gone. He knew I would have had a heart attack.

I'm allergic to honey bee stings so I wanted no part of these babies.. I did see one and they were really BIG!!! These are the kind that can knock you right off of your feet if they hit you.

Too bad it was in your yard and you had to pay for removing it.
