I have to do intermittent self-catheterization twice a day because I started to experience this several years back. I thought I was emptying my bladder but apparently each time I went, it was not emptying completely. I was referred to a Urologist and underwent Urodynamics and I was holding more than 100 cc's of urine at times. They decided to teach me the SIC then, and I've been doing it twice daily ever since.

Now, I don't fret that I'm not emptying my bladder completely because I know that twice a day I will be cathing. I was getting urinary spasms at the time, and I haven't had them since then either. Perhaps you need an evaluation by a Urologist. If they do suggest SIC, it really isn't so bad. I'm so used to it by now, that I don't think about it. I just do it every morning and every night after I brush my teeth. I'm glad you were finally able to go. But, this is not a symptom that I would take lightly, it's just part of our lives.

Thanks, Chris, my neuro called and I am to call in first thing tomorrow with a full report, and we may have to take action. She was relieved that I'm going now and even asked if I've been under unusual stress.

So, if I keep going as usual, I don't need to call in until tomorrow. Here's hoping!

Back to the topic, my neuro is hoping that it's just a little glitch and it will end by tomorrow. Otherwise, they're gonna hook me up.

Do you mean cath or uro dynamics testing?

AfterMyNap 01-23-2008 04:25 PM

I'm not sure. She said that if it starts up again, I'll be going in and we'll talk about it. I think it's a little better now, but I'm not sure I've conquered it completely.

cindy,

i'm glad you went but make sure you're really emptying.
it may be time for a urology or MS urology consult.
they will ultrasound your bladder to make sure you're emptying.

i had this problem some time ago and the urologist wrote a Rx for catheters etc. at least i have them in the house for emergencies.

stay on top of this before the wk is out.
and, that's an order missy!
Tweeeeeet :D
