I just started PT today - maybe it's because I'm my age - but the guy started me out slowly - trying to get my hips, legs and feet to do what they're supposed to do - when they're supposed to do it - can't wait until we get to balance - it's always fun to fall in public - he put me on a machine that you push treadles sort of like a recumbent bike - that was fun - I know from past experience with PT that you can train new groups of muscles to do the work of the ones that have failed - keep at it you'll be back in a kayack in no time - maybe run down Socatean for practice !
I'll do it in April if you go with me! LOL! It should be about 40 degrees by then!

right now - the lake is frozen ... but my neighbor has one of those 'treadle' paddle-boats ... I may use it this summer - but, I'm afraid that I'll get out to the middle of the lake and not have the energy to peddle back to shore ..

BUT - last summer, I went on a couple canoe rides ... and let my arms do the work - I felt like a million bucks when we got in ... I didn't have to stress out my legs ... and just the walk back home was enough for me! I want a canoe for my birthday! LOL

I know you're knee deep in snow for awhile yet ... maybe one of those treadle-paddle boats would be a fun exercise to work into your routine!
Just walking to the car is enough for me right about now! It's the ICE! We have one of those paddle boats, it's a double and it ain't easy to do by yourself! My side keeps sinking!

So far so good.

I spent most of the time between the parallel bars trying to stand and walk without doing my weeble imitation.
The exercises to strengthen my left arm actually felt good.

I was a little sore the next day, but not too bad.

Unfortunately, the therapist and I have decided that I must give up my dreams of becoming a prima ballerina.

I wish I could find a water exercise program.
I really would enjoy that.
Best of Luck to you and hope the therapy helps.
Risby, The ballerina comment just cracked me up! Gotta warn me to swallow the coffee first when you do that!

I am glad to hear I am not the only one in this! Keep posting your successes and rants! I'm right there with you all!!

Now I screwed up my shoulder trying to reach to the back seat from the front with seat belt on - dumb move - 2 months of PT for that combined with more PT for walking - at the end maybe I'll be able to walk without kicking myself and raise my arm over my head -what a wonderful way to end this endless winter !! Snow up there Riverwild ???

RW - you have convinced me that I need cognitive PT. I had the worst time picturing what the heck she had you do. I imagined myself doing this in PT and all I saw was blue; blue carpet and things crashing down all around me as I am sure my foot would have caught on something causing a huge chain reaction.

My once athletic & coordinated body has become a walking catastrophe.

Despite the weird things they try to make us do, in the long run it does work. Just take it slow and don't over do it. You'll get there. Heck, I am really impressed with all that you ARE doing. That's awesome!

Seatbelts are mandatory here in Maine for all you flatlanders...

Sorry to hear you are being tortured along with us all Karen! P.S. NO Snow!!! It has done a bit of raining here though... I went to the store at 4:00 and I was lucky I made it, some deeeeep puddles out there! Good thing it's still frozen ground or I woukd be doing the mud shuffle! I hope it's a slow thaw here. I prefer the lake at least 5 feet from my door!!

Thanks my thriftysistah

Yesterday I had to ask her to close the door when I did the new lessons. One was the angry cat/dying cow or some yoga name...the guy outside the door fell off the bike machine thingy after about three rises and falls of me on the table on my hands and knees arching my back while sitting on my heels and then dropping my back and body into a reverse arch... It'll serve me well at some point...

"We've" discovered that I don't or won't bend at the hips like I am supposed to anymore. She studied up...I did the research part where I don't...

It was a workout, I have ten new stretches I have to add this week. Hopefully there will be a Gumby contest at the end.

On the good side? A licensed therapist opened a new "relaxation pool" with aquatherapy added 30 miles away. It's a 94 degree saline pool and aromatherapy might even be included...just from looking at the paisley ad...right up my alley!! The PT was interested and she is checking to see if we can get it prescribed as part of PT . Of course she would have to be with me to make sure the therapy was what she recommended...LOL

We're going on the "cold makes me spazz" deal...since the High School pool is at 85 when I get in at 6 am... I get warmed up and my hour is over.

Hope all our other PT buddies are doing ok...chime in here!

I'm doing PT twice a week for this ankle sprain. I have to admit it feels good to be moving again, even when it hurts. I hope it gets me in some kind of shape (not round). So when Dad gets the basement gym set up (any day now), and starts bootcamp, I won't die.

Hey Gumby, how are doing with PT? Well, maybe you are not Gumby yet. LOL.

I did my yoga moves this morning and thought of you. I still would not be able to safely do what that woman asked of you.

I can't remember where the song comes from, a kids show from long ago..."Bend and Strettttttch...Reach for the skyyyy, Stand on tippy toes, wayyyyy up high!!!"

Imma bending and a-stretching. I'm so glad that the man is away this week so I don't have an audience while I do this...

(My name is not grace ...or gumby yet, but I AM trying!!!)
