Default Neuro vs Regular doc????

When do you know who to call when you arent feeling well? some symptoms can be MS, Medication side effects or something totally else.
So how do you know????

Other than MS, I also have Scoliosis, IBS, allergies of all types, Headaches, STRESS, etc.

Im on Cymbalta and Rebif. I recently finished a Rx for steroids after having a bad reaction to meds given to me during a biopsy at my GYN. Not to mention the latex allergy the doctor forgot I had!!!!!

**My headaches are coming back more regularly but not as intense as they use to be.
**Having strange pain in joints or bones
**Soreness in breasts.
**Recurrent sinus/coughing.
**Pain/burning in stomach sometimes.
**Constipation.
**Stressing.

etc.

I put a call into both doctors. The family doctor RN made an appt for me but asked if I thought it was MS related. In which i should check with my neuro. The neuro RN has yet to call back but usually tells me to call my regular doc.

Any suggestions??????

For me, if it's something I would've seen a normal doc for before MS, they are the first people I call. Like sinus problems, etc. I had vision issues and went to make sure my eyeballs looked good first before I called the neuro.

Now the electric shock-like pains I have - that was a direct call to neuro when they started. Couldn't think of anything else that could have been causing it.

This is probably from my past experiences of things being "swept under the rug" so to speak. I've learned to never assume anything the hard way. Still don't like docs much, but will always try to find out what's going on with me.

I hope this helps some.

I just posted a note to someone about this same issue. How do you know what is MS and what is not.

Our bodies are very complex and I think it would be a mistake to blame every thing that is going wrong on MS.

Hormones can do a job on our bodies. Giving birth, accidents, the process of aging. Even stress. Life is stressful. Stress can cause major issues with our health.

I don't believe stress is the cause of MS, but I do think it puts our bodies in a weakned state that can trigger things like MS. Anyway....I may be waym off in my thinking, but it is what I believe.

I think you did the right thing by calling both doctors. Let them figure it out if they can.

Motors I think you did the right thing calling both....your neuro should probably see you at least about the headaches, BUT if your sinuses are driving you crazy, then that could be the reason....

I'd tell the family RN that you don't think so, but you need to be seen! Like now!

And then let the doc decide if you need to see the neuro....

Good luck and I hope you feel better. Like quick!

I never call my neurologist, or at least I haven't yet. I suppose I am very fortunate though, because MS is quite prevalent where I live and my GP has many patients with it.

I always schedule an appointment with my GP, for all medical problems. Generally what he does is test me for anything that might rule out some other cause; X-ray, MRI, ultrasound, eye or ear specialists, etc., and generally advises me on whether it is MS-related or not. If it is, and he has no ideas for me, then I go to neurologist. (I do have my neurologist's 24 hr number, but I have never had to use it.)

Admittedly, my GP is very well versed on MS-problems . . . so that is why I rely so heavily on his input first.

I would call the PCP first if I were in doubt of who I needed to see, and let him figure it out.

For one thing, it's usually easier to get in to see them faster. And from what you said, you have a lot going on and you probably need to see your PCP anyway (sinus stuff at least), so why not first?
