Yes, PwMS often suffer from peripheral nerve damage too, Debbie . . . but it is caused by a process that is going on from within our central nervous system (MS lesions).

Neuropathy is...but Peripheral Neuropathy is something completely different and is NOT MS. That's my point. You bet you can have neuropathy. I have it...and I think probably most people with MS have some sort of neuropathy. But...

if you got to the PN forum and read about PN, you will get a much clearer definition about PN. It's a disorder that affects the all the nerves except those of the brain and the spinal cord. "periphery" those on the outside...it's interesting reading.

Please don't think I am discounting what she may or may not have. What I question is HIS comments that PN is a form of MS. It is not.

The brain and spinal cord (CNS) are the "orchestrators", and our PN nerves are part of the "band". In PwMS, our "orchestrator" is messed up (lesions), so the band just does not play the song properly.

Sometimes though, just part of the band (PN) doesn't cooperate, even with a good orchestrator (CNS).

Cheryl, have a good day and don't let others bother you. Your momma is #1 and that is what should be focused on. Family can be such a pain that you want to wring their neck. Save that for when Mom isn't looking! lol

Honestly, at this point let him chatter. It isn't worth the stress or aggravation. Some people just think they know it all and you can't change that. You've been through enough. Hugs to you and your family.

I want to go to lunch with you! LOL. Sandy is right, maybe try to keep the focus on Mom where it belongs right now. Should he try to change the subject, redirect the conversation to Mom, family, and lighthearted things.

It would be a great time to take a trip down memory lane. It is fun to get our parents take on things now that we are older.

Yes PN is not a form of MS, although MS may cause PN.

I know someone with both PN, MS and Diabetis and they are all
separate illnesses and yet intermingle, somehow.

Maybe her Doc is thinking possible MS, but DXed her with PN??

It sounds like he has his terms all mixed up. He probably caught little scraps of information that the Mayo-trained neuro said and translated it in his own way. The neuro probably used MS and PN in the same conversation...

I'm glad you set him straight. I've been thinking about you, hoping you're managing ok while visiting your dear Mom. Take care of yourself and tune the bothersome relatives out if you can.

I am sorry to hear that you had to come out of the closet. Did you come all the way out or just stick out your neck?

Having to deal with a parent's illness is ALWAYS a stressful thing, from beginning to end, and you don't need this carp on top of what you are dealing with.

I'm holding you in my prayers, along with Mom. Please try not to stress out too much ( I know that will be hard!) and do the job you planned to do while you are there.
