I never did steroids for my optic neuritis. (developed it in my left eye in August 06) But, in July of 2007 I had bad vertigo, and my regular doctor gave me oral prednisone for that. I probably should have had IV steroids for that instead. Since oral prednisone actually can make it so that you're more susceptible to repeated cases of ON, and I guess it doesnt matter when you had the ON, oral prednisone is bad for people who've had ON. (I found out about the prednisone AFTER I'd finished that prescription... Opps!) I had another experience with ON in february of this year, and it's still driving me nuts now. It hasnt caused any huge blind spots, but I dont think all of the information going into my right eye is actually making it past the optic nerve. Things just look weird sometimes thru that eye. This past week I've been having more optic nerve pain and things have been looking dim thru my right eye, and the color vision is a bit...weird. That's the part I hate, is when it messes with my color vision. I'm a crocheter and a sometimes knitter, and I love color and yarn shopping. So, whenever my color vision is all wonky, I get a little depressed about the way colors look to me. Plus, it's kind of strange to go yarn shopping and having to ask total strangers if the yarn colors go together. I dont always trust my eyes anymore.
