I thought I would share the results of my latest MRI since many of you have been so supportive of me during my tysabri "adventrue."

My neuro called me last night at 6:00 in the evening to tell me that there was no sign of any active inflamation. He did say that the radiologist thought that I perhaps had one more lesion than I did a year ago, but was not definite. He also seemed unsure,and was going to have the radiologists take another look at the images.

So at this point, he said he would give me a week or so to consider whether or not I wanted to go on imuran. If I decide against it, he wants to cancel my appointment in June and said I could see him in 6months and have another MRI at that time. I have already decided that I am going to pass on imuran at this point. I am also trying to decide whether or not to transfer all of my medical records to the MS center I went to in St. Louis. It is 150 miles from here and in a different state. For those of you who go to a neuro that is some distance away, how do you handle it if you are in a flare and cannot get to your doctors? The closest MS specialists are in St. Louis and Indianapolis.

Barb, I'm not sure about the long distance since all my docs are in town. but hopefully someone else can help ya out with that.

You have wonderful news, which is great after all you have been through. Glad you made up your mind about the near future. That has to feel good.

Hope someone will help with the long distance doctor idea.

this is good news barb. thanks for the update.
i can't answer your Q's. you might call this other office and ask them how they would handle your case long distance.

in reality it might be more difficult as oftentimes docs won't tx you without doing an exam.

First, congratulations on the good news!!! I think you probably knew things were better based on how you were feeling, but it is good to get the MRI to confirm it

My neuro is 120 miles from me and I live in a rural area... I have not had an exacerbation since my dx, lots of symptoms early on and I was always emailing him and he would call me and go over what was happening. We have a contingent plan that if I were in a flare, I would contact his office/him and he would call whatever ER I visited with instructions on how to treat my flare. All of my primary care physicians receive a report from him every 6 months when I see him, so all are aware of the MS and would give the orders for whatever he told them was needed.

Great news Barb !! I'm soo glad you had good mri! I don't know what I would do about the "long-distance neuro", but I suppose if I was unhappy with my neuro I'd be willing to travel.

thats great news! i have moved 250 miles from my neuro and see him once a year "unless" i am not doing well and then for me it is well worth the trip.

i have found a local neuro that will do as long as things remain stable butttt i want the best if i get in trouble and wouldn't think twice about making the trip.

Glad you got some good news! Can you use the long distance MS center for routine care and have a neurologist close by for emergencies?
