Been watching this trend on the news lately, and of course I think it's a wonderful idea both for commuters and to save energy.
There was a day when I would have killed for a four day work week. Now a ten hour work day would kill ME! I can barely get through 8. What are your thoughts?

I did this years ago in a hospital setting. At first we thought it would be better for covering patients (dietitians) and it would help us have longer options when we had to cover weekends.
However, it was harder to have continuity with the patients, and we did feel more tired those long days. We went back to 5 days a week. I was in my 20s and that was a long, long time ago. It had nothing to do with reducing energy costs. One thing I have learned over time is that everything changes. Remember when the stores were closed on Sundays? |

I've been working a four day work week for YEARS and I love it!
I'd be willing to do a three day week, even better! Of course, I'd rather win the lottery and not work at all! ![]()

I think Utah is the first to change to a 4-day work week for the state employees. I'm a county employee, so it doesn't apply to me. I'm PT and just work 1-2 days a week. I think I'd rather have the 3-day weekend, though. And one less morning to have to get-up and go.

When I was in radio we worked 6 days a week..The place I work now, people often work 10 hour days, 5 days a week and occasionally another 8 hrs on Saturday (that's the schedule this week, too)..4 days sounds pretty good...

I think it's a great idea. It would reduce commuter traffic, help the air quality and give people one more day at home.
Before I had to go on LTD I worked 10 (sometimes more) hour days five days a week and sometimes went in on Saturday (just to have some quiet time to get things done). I'm sure that contributed to me having to file for disability sooner than I would have had to with a "normal" work schedule. My son the police officer works a 6 on/3 off schedule. He liked the 4 on/2 off schedule better even though he had to work longer hours each of the 4 days.

I used to have a compressed schedule. Every other Friday off so you worked 9 hour days. That was fantastic and actually works better for employers because you could schedule all sorts of stuff for those Fridays that you'd normally have to take off work to do.

So is the operation/business only going to be open four days, or are they staggering people so that it is open the 5th (or all 7) days?
I think it would be very inconvenient for the public if this meant they closed every Friday or Monday. ![]() I couldn't even get through a 4 hr work day now ![]() I guess it really depends on the job, as far as whether I think this is a productive and healthy option. It probably wouldn't be too bad in a desk/administrative job, and most people would probably like the shorter week . . . but as a consumer, I would prefer that some professions are more rested and recharged. Our nurses work 12 hr shifts, and I think that's TOO long. Ever tried to ask a tired nurse for assistance? ![]() Cherie
