Default Rhodiola for fatigue?

While I was sitting in the doctor's surgery today waiting, and waiting, and waiting... , I found an article in a magazine which was written by a woman with MS. She discussed several of her symptoms and what she did about them, but the one that interested me the most was what she used to control her fatigue.

She uses a herbal product called Rhodiola, with great success!

I looked it up in Wikipedia, and this is what it says:

Rhodiola rosea may be effective for improving mood and alleviating depression. Pilot studies on human subjects showed that it improves physical and mental performance, reduces fatigue, and minimizes high-altitude sickness..........

Read more : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodiola_rosea

Anything natural that doesn't involve drugs is always something worth investigating! Obviously it wouldn't be for everyone, but it's certainly got me interested. I might just check this one out.

I typed it into my web browser and got lots of information about it, and lots of places here in Aussie that sell it. Maybe you could do the same as the outlets that sell it here in Oz won't be the same for you in the US.

Naturally I can't recommend it as I haven't tried it myself yet, but it sounds good and because it's a natural herbal remedy, it has me interested.

Good luck to anyone who decides to try it. Anything has to be better than this horrible fatigue that's plaguing me at the moment.

I'd even try Mel's bar of soap if I thought it would work!

Just be careful.....Herbal remedies can have side effects too and some are dangerous.

It would be nice, if it were something that would safely help us with fatigue..

I found this. It looks pretty safe..

Rhodiola Rosea Safety and Usage
Rhodiola rosea maintains an excellent safety profile when it is used as directed. A 100mg-300mg dose is recommended to promote healthy cognitive functions such as focus, attention, concentration, memory and mental sharpness. A 100mg-300mg dose is also recommended to relieve occasional nervousness, nervous tension, and anxiety or a depressed mood caused by everyday stress.

What are the potential side effects of Rhodiola Rosea?
Side effects are rare and have been documented as mild to moderate in clinical study. They may include headache, gastrointestinal discomfort, drowsiness, dizziness or sleep difficulty. In the event that you experience an adverse reaction, discontinue use of this herb. Rhodiola rosea does not cause withdrawal or discontinuation effects.

Is Rhodiola Rosea safe for children?
Clinical study data in children is limited and Rhodiola rosea should not be administered without the supervision of a professional healthcare provider.

Does Rhodiola Rosea adversely interact with prescription drugs?
Taking Rhodiola rosea in combination with prescription medications such as benzodiazepines, SSRIs, or SNRIs may cause drowsiness. If you are taking a prescription medication, it is recommended that you consult with your prescribing doctor before making any changes or additions to your current treatment plan.

What precautions should I take before beginning Rhodiola Rosea?
      • Consult with your healthcare provider before beginning a wellness plan that includes dietary supplements like Rhodiola rosea
      • Do not take Rhodiola rosea if you are pregnant or nursing
      • Do not take Rhodiola rosea if you are currently taking a prescription MAOI
      • Do not operate vehicles or heavy machinery until you know how Rhodiola rosea affects you

Thanks Sal.

I also had a good read about it when I got home from the doctor's surgery. As an ex nurse I understand all too well that natural remedies can have side effects, and can interact with other medications that you may be taking. As I'm not really taking much of note at the moment, this one looks like something for me to try.

I don't know how long it would take to see any benefit, if it works that is, but I daresay it would be along the lines of most other medications...say 3 to 4 weeks.

As mbabic has already ordered, I'm ever so interested in hearing how they fare! Anything has to be better than sleeping one's life away!

I even like the idea that maybe it might help with my cognitive function...... well to be honest....my lack there of at the moment!
