Thank you Ivy, for stopping in and clearing up your position in all this. I certainly think there's no downside of being healthy and conscious of what we put into our bodies that's for sure! I understand that this was an editing problem. They wanted to put "cure" on the front of the magazine to sell more copies. Thank you very much for the extremely generous contribution you made to the Montel Williams MS Foundation, my foundation of choice!

Hi Ivy-
Thanks for clarifying. I follow a very similar diet (Swank Diet) and feel that it's a very important part of my treatment. I too have been relapse free and understand that diet it not a "cure" just another facet to my treatment plan. I'm really glad you took the time to stop by! |

I'm sorry to be such a pessimist but....well, nevermind. If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all, right?? So I won't say anything right now.

I hate this kind of crap! And what's probably sad but true about the story, is this woman probably thinks her diet really did cure her MS, when in reality she's just in remission!
Man, if changing our diets did all the things it's supposed to we wouldn't be spending millions on testing new drugs! Amazing how easy we want it to be. And really, if all you have to do to lose weight is eat a particular diet, would any of us be fat! I especially love it when these dopey articles or books come out and well-meaning friends tell me about them. At least so far I can still nod politely to them and say, "Oh, really, I'll have to look into that, thanks for the info." (you idiot) I don't say that, but boy I want to. ![]()

Well....
a nice special whole food diet is nice and nifty, and if you can afford the extra costs to your food budget go for it. I just try my best to follow the fda pyramid and watch portions when I feed my family. I feel cruddy if I eat too much junk, better when I'm drinking plenty of water and eating good foods. I find it improbable that a neuro telling a patient to not waste their time on a special diet is to blame for a depression that was excasserbated by a medicine, that clearly states depression as a side effect... I think my low iron body is looking forward to some red meat tonight.... Thanks for this thread. Thanks Ivy for coming in here and explaining your position....

I received a copy in the mail a couple of days ago from my Dad and stepmom, who lives in Canada.
I wondered, what do I do -- educate him, thank him, both? I tried a little of both -- told him that I planned to add more fish, told him that I already watch saturated fats, and that I'm not willing to give up red meat. I also reminded him that it is curing MS is not possible, and that reduced symptoms is considered a remission, not a cure. But, I tried to be nice. ~ Faith

Thanks Ivy for coming by to voice your opinion. I hope you stick around. Did you call the magazine and ask for a revised version of your story? That would help to stop the misconception that your diet can cure or put ms in remission. As stated, not everyone is the same and not all treatments work for each individual.
We are already being hounded by the diet cure for ms. Anytime you eat better it's good for the body. That's a given. It's just not true that following any particular diet will cure or put ms into remission. If that was the case we would all be cured or in remission. :-) Again, I hope you contacted them and they are willing to include a revised version. ![]()
