Also there is a vitamin/herbal thing called Llysine. you can buy it at most grocery stores. this really helps keep canker sores in check.

No, I don't think oral thrush is that common for people with a good immune system. "Lady" yeast infections are quite common, from using antibiotics. Eating a diet with plain yogurt is good for that, but we don't do much dairy in this house.

I was introduced to thrush when my eldest was a baby. She had a lot of allergies, sinus and ear infections . . . so lots of antibiotics. I was not aware that antibiotics could cause ORAL thrush, but I suppose that makes sense because it can cause "lady" yeast infections.

I am a smoker, and have tried to quit several times. I know that smoking is RECOMMENDED for those who have Ulcerative Colitis, which I have. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.

Oddly, I've been on a lot of antibiotics the last couple years, and I have never had a lady yeast infection that I've been aware of.

When I was much younger I did however!

Are those of us with MS living with "good" immune systems though?

You speak of imbalances... maybe my major quitting smoking imbalance caused this? Sigh.
I also get canker sores sometimes Laura. I take 500mg of lysine daily and it keeps them in check. Acidic foods do tend to aggravate them in me.

Don't worry about the imbalance from quitting, it will even itself out in time as your body adjusts to its healthier state.

Well I see oral thrush and I worry about what other crap could be going on in my body. I'm already willing to bet my neuro is going to go into further testing for Lupus now knowing my mother has it apparently.

I did the candida cleanse diet actually in January 08/Feb 08... just prior to my MS diagnosis.

Now eating a low fat diet seems like cake compared to the candida diet. Goodness.

I have oil of oregano here actually in capsules from before when I was doing that cleanse... but I recall the nutritionist telling me that you don't touch the oil of oregano until you've done the diet for 2 weeks, or you can actually end up very sick from killing off the bad yeast.

I think that diet is over-kill, Laura . . . but just take from it what you find helpful, i.e. try the easy stuff, then see how it pans out for you.

I just thought of something.

You know, it is VERY possible that the burning in your mouth has been caused by this too! When I get oral thrush, my mouth (especially my tongue) burns, and that's how I get to treating it with acidophilis early enough.

Possible... however would you believe they swabbed my mouth probably 4 times this year already with negative for yeast results?

Even my pap was negative for yeast.

I kept running back to the doctor "Swab please!" hoping in a way it was yeast all along, so I could take something to rid myself of the burning.

Maybe it took quitting smoking to allow it to come forth? Possible?
