Yeah they did a culture. The white spots look a bit smaller today, and are a TINY bit less painful, but the pain factor of this is a 13/10 honestly.

I am finding, Trident freshmint gum actually keeps the saliva flowing and soothes the pain (not too strong, just perfect). Room temperature ginger ale as well is helping . I ate oatmeal, but I had to wait for it to cool off to lukewarm before I could swallow it without wincing in agony. It's that painful a throat infection

Well, I am keeping a digital camera blog of my throat (I'll spare you folks!) and it does seem that things are getting a little less crazy in there.

It's amazing how much Trident Freshmint helps soothe the throat. You would never guess it.

Cherie, I've been opening up those probiotic capsules and literally munching/swishing around the powder from them haha.

This is day 3 of antibiotic/antifungal. I seem to recall in the past Amoxicillan just wasn't 'potent' enough for dealing with my illnesses that I was getting, because I took it so much when I was a kid. Perhaps this may end up being the case here? Still don't know the results of the swab either.

A throat blog??? I think you have WAY to much time on your hands. Way, way, WAY too much time.....

(and can I just say "EEEEeeeewwww....." here!)

Should I be taking out stock in Trident?

There is one other option this could be, Laura. My youngest (who eats too many carbs ) got the white patches in her mouth, and a really sore throat, last Winter or Spring. I treated her with Acidophilis and rinsing her mouth faithfully, but it wasn't budging. I think it took me several days to finally take her in the doc, and she was swabbed for strep. I never heard back from them (assuming it wasn't strep then), but the doc said there was some kind of virus going around that was causing this. I didn't believe her, but she said it should let up within about 10 days from onset . . . and sure enough it did.

I kept treating her with the thrush home remedies throughout that time too though.

She said her throat was terribly sore too, which is why I started thinking strep after several days.

So, it might just be that virus finally made it to the east coast.

Cherie

So weird. Yes Gaztastic, stocks in Trident for sure!

No fever still (I check that day and night), lymph nodes are not swollen.

Ginger ale soothes, gum soothes, my toothpaste after brushing dulls the pain, so do halls and chloraseptic... salt makes it VERY angry, I can't eat anything with a rough texture....

If it is viral is it simply a waiting game at this point? Or would steroids be a course of action to consider (I never did go to my neurologist in the end, believe it or not... because this throat affliction appeared out of nowhere).

I keep trying to convince myself that quitting smoking was a good idea.

dmplaura;

I find it interesting that you suffered from canker sores for awhile. I went thru 7 years of having them so bad I could hardly talk. This was pre-MS diagnosis and I was constantly going to the doc begging them for help. I actually was 12 lbs lighter when I suffered from them....it was hard to eat.
At the same time I endured red eyes caused by episcleritis then it all miraculously faded away and I am only bothered once in awhile.
Doctors now think my immune system was under attack and going awry.

Also, quitting smoking can cause cankers sores to pop up too. I have not had a cigarette since Sept 29 (on Chantix).
As for me I would recommend any smoker to try the stuff. After about 2.5 weeks of taking it I suddenly 'forgot' I smoked. Its the magic pill I've been hoping for. Doc says I am having a great reaction to the drug...but I know others who quit with Chantix saying the same thing. I've had a few canker sores pop up too.

I have a friend who swears she got sicker after quitting smoking! Eventually things evened out but it is a real shock to the body and a really tough addiction to kick. I hope you feel better soon. Big Hug

HUGE CONGRATS!! You quit 1 day before me! Glad to hear that you, Debbie and I have all managed to quit this stinky habit this year. That's so awesome. I actually had cravings a bit today, but they were short lived.

I've never heard of Chantix myself, but Clonazepam was definitely my wonder drug for quitting. For sure, by far. I just didn't care about being a smoker anymore. It turned off the care factor in my mind. Makes sense, since it is anti anxiety medication.

In any event, I think we're all amazing people.

I also think it's amazing that after 3 days of virtually liquid diet, I was able to put back a tendergrill from Burger King with lettuce/onion and light mustard without much pain tonight.

So I went to get my depo shot done today, and the doctor that looked at my throat said it looks like it's viral, not strep OR yeast.

It is improving slowly, so if it is viral, it's a waiting game now.

LE SIGH.
