So I am thinking back to when I was 19 and was diagnosed with Hyperthyroid and Graves disease which is another auto-immune disease that attacks your endocrine system.
Has anyone else been diagnosed/ treated for this? I am trying to figure out how all of this is or could be inter-related to MS. |

As I research what to do for the MS, I take into consideration the whole picture.

I know that autoimmune disorders seem to run in my family on both sides. I have relatives with several allergies (I got that too, allergic to penicillins and shellfish, altho the shellfish allergy seems to be iffy now for some reason) and I've got a few relatives with assorted autoimmune disorders such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. My aunt told me something about my uncle's heart problem that he died from could have been caused by an autoimmune disorder, I dont remember the whole explanation for it, but if its true, that might explain why my dad has a heart problem now too, just like his little brother had.

I have hypothyroidism and take Levothyroxine everyday for it. In fact, my PCP just upped my dosage of it due to some blood test results. I really can't tell any difference when I take it....but I'm sure I would if I didn't take it!

More info. I was diagnosed with a severe case of graves disease/ hyperthyroidism when i was 19. it was the worst case the doctors in my area had seen and I was on the verge of having a heart attack. I actually had a team of doctors for this.
Then, I became pregnant with my daughter4 years later. (after 2 miscarriages) I was on medication the entire pregnancy and after I had her they gave me radioactive iodine theory to kill off part of my thyroid. 6 months later i stopped the meds and have since tested normal but have not been tested in a little over a year. The only information i can find aside from the two being related all deals with people who were diagnosed with MS and were on interferons and then developed graves. |

I was dx'd with Hashimoto's (hypothyroid) just months before the surprise MS dx..Come to think of it, I suddenly became allergic to pennicillin a year before...I believe they're related, though I don't think one causes the other. For me, it wasn't interferons, because the hypothyroid came before that..Hmmm

I have Hashimoto's also. The prevalence of autoimmune thyroid disease among multiple sclerosis patients is widespread.
In my humble opinion, many cases of multiple sclerosis are more a systemic condition than one focused only on the nervous system. I also have autoimmune psoriasis, Certainly, all of these auto immune syndromes must be related, and rather than insist on thinking of them as different diseases, which is the current dogma in mainstream medicine, I think it's about time that it was recognized that they are all manifestations of a single syndrome... |
