Blank Can't taste my food

Found this thread today after a search. I guess it happens...losing your sense of taste, that is. I was eating peanut M&M's and noticed I couldn't taste them. A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY, I might add!

Do you have a cold, allergies or sinus troubles? That's the only time I lose my taste. Oh No! Not Peanut M&Ms..

No cold, unless it's hiding deep in my sinuses.

Don't know that I've ever had good taste ~ yuk yuk yuk...
The numbness itself has never affected taste, but steroids have big time..Also, if you have problems with your sinuses or a stuffy nose, that affects taste also (try plugging your nose and eating a lemon..Seriously..You won't taste it)..

The IVSM I've been getting monthly seems to have permanently affected my beloved taste buds...unless the food has tremendous spiciness or strong flavors, then it tastes like rubber

All of these reply's would make sense with the answer I got from my doctor today...He says I'm probably low on zinc and magnesium. When you have a cold, they tell you to take zinc and magnesium, interesting. Steroids most likely strip your body of nutrients, also interesting.

Just took a bunch of magnesium...I'll keep you posted.

I remembered that you had said something about zinc being a no-no for MSer's, Barb. I wonder what the problem with it is? I know lots of cold remedies have zinc in them.

Oddly I never heard about staying away from zinc. My nutritionist (who sees other MSers as well) actually suggested taking small amounts of it daily.

Magnesium is also apparently very good for headaches...wish it worked for me!
