I was given my choice. a truck load of dvds, and information, and my MD only said if I was going to pick Avonex, he would prefer I go with Rebif, as its more meds, more often, and he had that preference. I looked up alot, and researched which one crosses the blood brain barrier vs which one tries to repair it, and the side effects, vs the method of action.
I chose Betaseron, because it tries to plug the blood brain barrier, and stayed on it a few months. My liver enzymes went soaring sky high, and I was pulled. All other meds are interferon and would risk the same thing, so I was forced over to copaxone. I have been on it a year and a half. It was a hard transition, but I eventually adjusted. I have great insurance, so no matter what I picked it was $3 a month.

Thank you all for your time and openess. It's kind of you all.
I'm edging towards Betaferon. But I'm surprised that statistically, few people are on it. I just don't know why? Is it a side effect thing, i wonder? |

One of the big things to know is that no matter which drug you chose, you are NOT stuck with it for life. If you get on the Betaseron wagon, and find the side effects too much, or simply hate the drug, your MD will change you to another therapy if they see you have given it a really good try, and have worked hard to make it work for you.
I liked Beta. it was something you mix yourself, so no fridge needed. the others say they can be out of the fridge for 30 days, but I dont trust that. I keep mine cool. Beta has a great track record, and works hard to plug the blood brain barrier so those cells cant get up there, and eat your mylin. Its well tolerated by most who take it. I have a friend who has been on it for 9 years now, and is doing great. now and again she spikes a fever after her shot, but a couple of tylenol, and shes good to go. Its really a hard thing to do. I hope you are able to pick soon. ![]()
