I've wondered that too.

I did, however, see a neuroimmunologist when I was in a study. It is a fairly "new" subspecialty.

Hmmmmmm.......interesting thought. But we're really in trouble in this neck of the woods since there aren't too many neurologists and no true MS Specialists..........an Immunologist???? I don't think so!!!!

Well, then, why do rheumatologists treat things like RA, lupus, Sjogren's, scleroderma, etc? I think it goes more by where the autoimmune disease does it's damage because the specialist in that area is more apt to treat the sx and damage.

Also, there are way fewer immunologists and it seems like they are more researchers who work in tandem with the other specialties.

My personal theory:
MS is thought to be an autoimmune disease, but when immunologists looked into it, they said (rightly), "No one in their right MIND would want to take on this disease"...Thus it was passed on to Neurology..
