Yes, that's the one. Thank you for posting the link and the welcome.

I had to remove the link because am have not posted enough to include it in a quote. It is a good thing I am not trying to sell anything. I bet that helps keep the people that are trying to sell something off the site.

Yes, if you are cycling yourself which I do it keeps your heart rate up. It is also good for keeping muscles toned. I only work on the legs but it can also be used for the arms.

I always enjoyed biking(my main souce of transportation) when I was growing up. I push myself to pedal fast and try to increase my distance each week. Since we have so many people that want to use the motomed, I usually get 15 minutes on it.

tkrik 08-06-2009 08:39 AM

My exercise plan for today is walking around Target with DD17 as she gets things for her dorm.:D While it is not my 1st choice for exercise at all, I hate to shop, it is inside and in a/c.;)

BBS1951 - Yes, I am a desert rat. In areas of the state (AZ) they are having excessive heat warnings. No outside activities for me for a while.:(

BBS1951 08-06-2009 09:58 AM

Thanks for the reply Ladylurk.

Tkrik, bummer on walking around Target. I also do not care for shopping, espeically in the big boxes. Everytime I see your name, I think of Tikrik in Iraq-- is that what it stands for, or is it coincidence.

I swam a mile this morning and the pool looks alot better. I did free weights for 30 mins last night.

I had never heard of Tikrik so it is just coincidental. Big boxes are harder to shop in with cog issues. Too much stimuli going on.

I never thought of free weights. What a great idea. I always forget the things I have at home too. I have a balance disk type thing that came with a DVD. I did that for a while and I think it helped my balance. I had to hold on to a chair to do it though. I also have resistance bands that I should pull out and start using again. Those are a major work out but good for spasticity.

BBS1951 08-06-2009 07:22 PM

Yes, resistance bands could be a super good thing to try.

Snoopy 08-06-2009 09:35 PM

My routine has changed in the last several days.

We took a mini-vaction to Mt Rushmore. Lots of walking and I even fit in my PT exercises :D I am in love with the Black Hills except next time we go up there I want to make sure it's not bike rally week  :D

Today we headed for the mountains here in Colorado for a picnic and a little bit of hiking.

I have been on the Elliptical 3 times during all of this. Didn't make the 2 mile mark (30 minutes) but was able to cover 1 mile one day and 2 1/2 miles the next two days.

Cindy, I'm going to be asking my PT about treking poles. How is that going for you?

TXBatman 08-07-2009 11:22 AM

Spinning class again last night. 48 minutes, max 88% of max HR, avg 78% of max HR, 743 calories burned. The instructor came in and said "this is my third class of the day so my legs are cooked...do you want hard moderate or mellow?" We all said "you know we will do whatever you tell us to do, so you pick." He didn't let up on us at all...but it was fun as always.

SallyC 08-07-2009 11:51 AM

I like to check in here every day. It keeps me motivated to not slack off.:) I'm not saying that MSers are lazy...only this one is, for sure..

Thanks for the help..

I feel the same way and I do tend to be a bit lazy or shall I say just conserving energy. :p

Tomorrow is swim aerobics class and they have a new eliptical exercise machine on the floor which I will try and see if I am able to do it.

Today; I just finished some light cleaning; just dusting and swiffering.

I get my work done first then I have earned my computer time! That's my incentive. ;)

BBS1951 08-07-2009 03:08 PM

Hi Snoopy, my you have been very active--Mt Rushmore--wow! And eliptical on top of that?! My BIL works for the parks service and was able to stand on one of the heads at Mt. R!

SallyC, I'm glad this thread is helpful to you. That is part of the intent, to inspire others to move more.

TxBatman, what can I say--keep on keeping on.

AZJanie, tell us tomorrow how your swim aerobics and/or elliptical goes. I am so bad at elliptical. I am only a swim maven.

Swam one mile this morning in 50 minutes. It was very wonderful -- before the sun hit the pool, and before work :)

sabimax 08-07-2009 03:17 PM

oh how I wish to be swimming more... I can not afford the Y anymore, and the lake is near by, but hard to get there for a real swim... (five kids..hehe)

anyhow, golfed many days in row, today may have to skip any exercise as I worked my 8 hours and my back last night and even today during work is spasms badly:mad: I took the tramadol last night, and seemed to subside it eventually... and I took one now, was trying not to take it in day, as do not want to get used to it for pain relief... but the spasms are feeling like labor pains but in the back... no not preggo lol...

hugss and great job all, sarah (maybe I will do some yoga.. after a rest as that helps stretching right)

BBS1951 08-07-2009 04:13 PM

You golf but cant afford to swim? Isnt golf like a totally expensive sport??

AfterMyNap 08-07-2009 08:06 PM

Took a couple hikes today, even some with cane only, wow! I'm moving more now than I have in a long time and it's good!

BBS1951 08-07-2009 08:59 PM

Thats great aftermynap. What do you attribute your better moving to?

That would be so cool! Of course, I would probably be too chicken to go that high :o There is a beautiful lighting ceromony in the evenings, It's just an amazing place day or night.

I had PT today and went grocery shopping for 2 weeks worth of food for four

I got on the elliptical this evening but decided to use it backwards. I do that sometimes. I like how it makes my legs feel but it's hard to get much distance in - I did less than a quarter mile.

TXBatman 08-07-2009 11:05 PM

Back to spin class this afternoon. Normally I would go on Saturday instead, but the instructor for the saturday morning class just isn't one of my favorites. The one who taught the afternoon class today IS one of my favorites. She is from Venezuela and always plays all kinds of really high tempo Latin and Samba style music. She is a tiny little thing (like 4'10" maybe?) and has run several iron man triathlons (2.5 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run), so she is in incredible shape. She always has a huge smile all class long and makes everybody want to try to keep up, even if we know it is futile...

Anyways...52 minutes, max HR 88% of max, avg HR 77% of max 755 calories burned. Tomorrow morning is lawn mowing time and Sunday we are probably going to try to get up early and do 30-35 miles out on the roads before it heats up too much. Have a great weekend and keep moving y'all!

BBS1951 08-08-2009 10:34 AM

What a great instructor TxBatman. You are probably their most loyal member at cycling :)

Snoopy, backwards elliptical? thats interesting, I've never heard of that.

I swam 1 1/8 mile today--an extra 1/8 because there was time and the water was so sparkling and refreshing. Was aiming for an extra 1/4, but the foot felt like it would go into cramp mode if I continued. It was still great!

The Bioness L300! It has changed my life and I'm not exaggerating one bit. :D

SallyC 08-08-2009 11:30 AM

Hey Nappy, I love that you are moving better, again and I hope Ins covers this thingy, so a lot of you youngsters can enjoy life a bit more. I've had MS since 1964...DXed in 1976 and it was pretty mild, until 1993.....I was still walking, running and bowling, until 1993.

I see no reason why Insurance shouldn't cover the Ness L300, just as any other assistive walking devise, so that a bunch of you could enjoy the benefits, as is, AMN..:)

LOL

Going backwards on the ellptical was pure accident...at first. I had a hard time intially getting my feet to go in the right direction...forward  :D

It took me awhile to figure out (yes, I'm a slow learner ) how to get on the machine and go forward instead of having my feet move backwards.

sabimax 08-08-2009 04:27 PM

BBS, well we have a golfing membership each year... my parents have always gotten it with us... and help us with the cost.. we are all golfers ...

when we go out then we use my parents golf cart, and so we golf a lot thru summer since a non cost activity as the membership cost is a better deal.

guess i should say the Y is time consuming for me to pay and get there daily... as I work 8 hours a day and have five kids, so time is sparce.... to get ready go somewhere else for exercise and come back....so I feel if I do not get there very often, it is not worth the cost. (also hubby just lost his job this past month...)

hugss all and keep moving, sarah

AZjanie 08-08-2009 05:14 PM

I went to water aerobics this morning and we really had fun. My class is all older women and I am the "kid" at 60 years old. :p

I tell you these old broads have more energy than you can imagine and we all have such a good time!;)

The class lasts an hour and afterward we have coffee and juice and snacks.

Today I went on the eliptical and did well. Now my right foot is buzzing and reminding me I did a bit much but that's okay.

sabimax 08-08-2009 06:57 PM

yoga I did 40min of yoga..yeahhhhhhhhhh hugsss,sarah

BBS1951 08-08-2009 07:12 PM

Aftermynap: You feel the same way about your machine as I feel about my swimming; it changed my life too!

BBS1951 08-08-2009 07:15 PM

Hi Sabimax, now that makes alot of sense! I didnt know you have five kids at home. I only had two, and when they were still in the nest, I only worked half time, and never had time to read a book, to exercise, to go out with a friend, to watch a movie. So, I soooooo know what you are talking about!

Hey AzJanie: Those old women have all that energy cuz they don't have to work and they dont have MS!!

Erin524 08-08-2009 08:13 PM

I took my Kindle reader with me to go treadmilling today. It sat just perfectly on the little book ledge on the treadmill. I didnt even realize I'd done 15 minutes of walking until I looked down at the timer. It made the nearly 40 minutes that I did on the treadmill go by really really fast!

I even finished my book! (a Stargate Atlantis novel)

It was great, didnt have to turn any paper pages, just hit the Next Page button when I needed to. It was really nice. I think I'll be taking my Kindle with me more often now.

I usually do 25 to 30 minutes on the treadmill, I did almost 40 today and only stopped because my knees started to hurt.

BBS1951 08-09-2009 10:32 AM

what a great idea, taking the Kindle :) Kindle is on my wish list...

I swam 1 1/4 mile today, I jsut wanted to stay in the pool forever--it was a perfect day out and I love the weightlessness of pool-- I feel much more normal in the pool :)

SallyC 08-09-2009 12:11 PM

Moving slow today, on purpose....it's HOT!!!!

DD etal didn't visit long today, as she was hurrying home to her pool and ice cream..:D She was really moving..LOL!!

sabimax 08-09-2009 03:39 PM

hugsss

worked my normal 8 hours, now going to go golf 9 holes... hurting but not as badly. I did take the tramadol this morning and a bit ago.. and will take one tonight. It seems to be keeping the pain to a 5 instead of a 10!! So I am going golfing, it is what I love to do. This crap is not holding me back!! hugss, sarah

(oh lost three pounds the past week and half.. think from moving more I am focusing more on eating better woohoooo )

Erin524 08-09-2009 05:05 PM

I went treadmilling again today with my dad.

I wanted to use the really nice treadmills (they have two different kinds there) and the one I used yesterday was in use, so I went to use one of the others next to it, and was saddened to see that they didnt have the book ledge on them.

So, I had to use one of the not-as-nice treadmills so that I could read my Kindle again today. Ended up tripping on that treadmill about 18 minutes into the walk. (good thing I use the Emergency Stop string) Someone walking past me distracted me and I tripped. I didnt fall down, but ended up twisting my back a little bit when the emergency stop slammed me to a halt. I did maybe another 5 minutes before my back told me to go sit and wait for my dad to get done with his workout.

Good thing I had an ipod and Kindle with me today. My dad went another 45 minutes! I just sat there and re-read one of my Stargate novels. (I could have bought another book, but Amazon only has one more Stargate novel left in their inventory of Kindleized Stargate novels. I need to start clicking on the "I want to read this on the Kindle" button on the other books more often.

AZjanie 08-09-2009 06:43 PM

WOW!!

Only 98 degrees for a high yesterday and today so we are enjoying the cold spell.

I went for a walk around the neighborhood last night as there was such a nice breeze.

I visited with some of our neighbors I'd not seen for quite some time and they want to walk too which will be fun and nice to get out and exercise.

Most evenings are cool here with a nice breeze so we will walk off dinner calories or at least some of the little critters!:p

Keep on movin' on!

BBS1951 08-09-2009 07:08 PM

Sounds wonderful, exept the 98 degree part :)

TXBatman 08-09-2009 09:56 PM

Change of plans this weekend. We slept in saturday morning instead of getting up to mow the lawn (and it felt GREAT!). By the time we woke up it was too hot to mow (1/3 acre with 2 pushmowers), so we just goofed around and went to visit my mom for dinner.

This morning we got up early and mowed and weedeated the lawn. This evening, my wife was too tired for a bike ride, so I went to the park by myself and did 55 minutes at 17 mph for a total of 15.6 miles. I was trying to do an approximately one hour "aerobic threshold" level effort to see how the spinning classes had affected my threshold power.

I ended up with a max of 90% of max HR and avg of 82% of max HR. Since I know my threshold is around 84-85%, it appears I accomplished my goal. for the 55 minute effort, I burned 841 calories according to my HR monitor. I would have gone even faster and harder, but it was still quite hot when I started (~93-95F) and the wind shifted mid ride so I ended up going upwind for 3 of the four legs.

tkrik 08-10-2009 10:11 AM

The mornings are cooling off and I am hoping they stay that way. I can then start my morning walks again. Yeah! I miss them. I only go for time not distance.

Yesterday my exercise consisted of walking around Target with DD17. It took us about an hour and she was able to get almost all of her stuff for her dorm. In total, I don't know how many minutes of walking I got in as it was stop and go but that is ok with me.

Got my stretches done this morning.

BBS1951 08-10-2009 10:17 AM

Wow, TxBatman, I soooo miss being able to do that in the heat !

Tkrik: Two visits to Target in one week? I'd be in the rubber room if I had to go to the Big Box twice in a week. You have good mental toughness :)

I swam my mile in 50 minutes. My swimming has improved, but my time has fallen. I used to swim it in 44 minutes. But, I improved my stroke so that I can do two sided breathing, and for some reason, I'm a bit slower. I might also be because I added back stroke for 1/8 mile (crawl for 7/8 ) and I used to do it all in crawl.

Keep on Moving people :)

tkrik 08-10-2009 10:28 AM

LOL BBS. The 1st trip to Target didn't go well and ended in us leaving quickly as my legs turned to lead and the vertigo hit right in the middle of the shampoo isle. DD17 was so ticked at me.

BBS1951 08-10-2009 04:36 PM

Even a healthy person could get vertigo and lead legs in one of the Big Boxes! Does Target have w/c for folks like us??
