What I meant to say is that you need a broad-based and open-minded neurologist, who will not try to automatically stick you into a box that he/she knows. |

Thank you Ginnie,
I'm still not able to swallow. I try taking sips of water though out the day. Sometimes it works sometimes not. After Church today my husband and I stopped at McDonalds. I wanted to see if I could take sips of a milk shake. I found out after the first sip that no I can not. I choked and got my self in another funk of a mood. I don't know why I keep trying. I have called to get a bariam swallow test done but the appointment won't be for 3 more weeks. I don't know if they can do much without me being able to swallow something besides a few sips of water when I can. I am starting to see the thicker the liquid the hard for my throat has to push it down. It sits at the back of my throat and it's very scary. I'm trying to get into a positive mood but it is so very hard. I hope you and yours are doing well, Sincerely, Josie |

I was kind of surprised that your doctors want you to do the barium swallow test. I had one, and it does require you to drink some thick fluid. If you can't swallow to begin with, I don't see how this test can be performed, as the liquid is tracked throughout your upper GI tract.
Have you had an endoscopy? It is where you are put to sleep for a real short time and they take a camera and have a good look at all parts of your throat and stomach. You also may get a biopsy. I am curious as that seems like a good investment in research into your swallowing problem. since you are asleep there is no resistance of your throat to the proceedure. I sure do hope things improve for you. What field of expertise is following your case? I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. ginnie |

The gastro doctor did a complete look using the endoscopy just before he put in the feeding tube. He went thought the mouth down the throat and into all the stomach, He wrote in his report everything looked healthy and normal. The barium swallow test may or may not happen if I can't swallow the barium. I just have to wait and see what changes may occur in the next three weeks if any. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Josie |

I sure hope they can find a resolution for you. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I am glad you had the endoscopy done, that is what showed me where my swallowing problems are. I had hoped that your situation would be helped quickly so that you can enjoy eating and swallowing once again. Do be good to yourself as you go through whatever proceedures they have for you. I hope you will be able to accomplish the barium swallow test. May you have peace during the holidays. ginnie
